We are going to be in Naples for a few days before taking the ferry to Palermo for 3 weeks in Sicily. We have never stayed in Naples. We have visited Salerno and been to Pompeii and Herculaneum. Looking for an Italian hotel with breakfast, close, walkable access to sites, the underground, Museo Archeologico. Thank you.

This is where the RS South Italy tour stayed and its wonderful.
Breakfast was good and the breakfast room had views from the roof top location.
It's a modern, upscale hotel that is a nice escape from the grittiness of Naples.
It's close to a Metro stop and walkable to many sites.
Not cheap, though.

We enjoyed staying in the Chiaia district on the waterfront. Our hotel which I recommend was Palazzo Alabardieri .
