Where to stay the night before we leave Dublin?

We will be returning from Galway and have a 10 a.m. flight from Dublin back to the States. Is there a hotel near the airport that's recommended (with good food nearby for our last dinner in Ireland!) or shall we just stay in the city and take a taxi to the airport in the morning? Thanks!

Whatever you decide, DO allow yourselves the three hours suggested to get through all the security/customs preclearance at DUB.

And for what it is worth, I'd stay in the city for your last night.

We stayed at an airport hotel last year (the Galway bus went directly to the airport). Since it went to the airport, we decided to just stay nearby. Doing the same this year, although we will be in Dublin, not Galway before, since we too will be on a morning flight. I must say that the hotel last year was pretty blah, and overpriced as well. May be some better food options for the last dinner outside of the hotel (our dinner was pretty bad as I recall). Overpriced this year as well, but nice not to have to worry about being late at the airport.

Dublin pre-screening was pretty efficient. Didn't take as long as some other European airports.

We stayed at the Maldron on the airport grounds with free shuttle service to the terminal. Its a business hotel, kinda of what you'd expect for 110 euro. There is a frequent bus service from central Dublin, Aircoach, that runs 24-7. www.aircoach.ie

Malahide is a cute town, a train ride away from the city but only 10 minutes from the airport.

When we stayed in Dublin we stayed at The Jury's Inn which is a great location across from Christ Church and an easy walk to many of the tourist places in Dublin. There are a lot of historical places in that area and good eateries and pubs.

Perhaps you have already gone by now but I will throw in my opinion. We stayed at the Premier Inn near the airport so we could turn in our car the night before our morning flight and I'm so glad we did! We did need a full 3 hours the next morning to clear all the security and customs. Premier Inn has a shuttle to and from the airport which costs 1 euro. We did eat in the restaurant there that night although there was a TGIF restaurant nearby and probably others as well. The food was pretty good but not the best we'd had through our trip. The hotel room was huge and quite nice but we weren't there long!

Thanks for the advice to stay near the airport the night before we left. That's what we did (though we went into Dublin for dinner and one more pub visit that night!). We ended up staying at the Holiday Inn Express by the airport, about 5 minutes away by shuttle. It was just fine and the shuttle to the airport left very early. Room was clean, quiet and reasonable. Plus, their breakfast was available very early, so we could grab a bite before having to deal with security, etc.
