Malahide Castle--and unexpected pleasure

Rick Steven doesn't mention Malahide Castle but I was hearing of it from other sources. We had a last night in a Dublin airport hotel. I realized that we could drop our bags and have one last experience but taking a taxi to Malahide Castle which is north of Dublin as is the airport. We were 3 people so we did find that taxis were not much more than other transportation. The Dart train also stops in Malahide within walking distance of the Castle. The castle has two beautiful gardens and old trees to which you are only allowed admittance with a castle tour ticket. The castle was in the hands of the Talbot family for 800 years through many ups and downs. The tour is great and there are many original Talbot furnishings. There is an upscale shop and cafe called the Courtyard on the castle grounds. If you are just in Dublin and want a castle and country experience this is very good. Malahide is a small upscale town with pubs and restaurants.

I made reservations with a B&B in Malahide for a weekend. It's a quick DART ride into Dublin if I feel like sightseeing the city. It's a quick bus ride to the airport. And, it's only about 2 blocks to the beach strand where I intend to stroll and fill my senses. I'll report back with my experience.
