Macroom

Hello,
I am looking to see if anyone has rented a place to stay in Macroom and also to see if you used Macroom as a base to tour? I will be in Ireland for 10 days and am looking to stay in one town for a week, and 2 days in Dublin. Any suggestions?

Unless you have some sort of ancestral connection to Macroom I probably wouldn't recommend using it as a base for a week. There are better choices that are more centrally located to attractons in the south and west of Ireland...depending upon your particular interests, one of which would be the village of Kenmare, on the southern loop of the ROK and an easy drive up to Killarney and the National Park. It's much quieter than Killarney town so you could retreat from the tourist hordes in the evening once you'be finished exploring for the day.
Kenmare is also handy to the Beara Peninsula, which we've always thought was one of the best kept secrets in Ireland. Imagine the ROK without the tour buses and you pretty much have it. Lots of pleasant excursions and some of the best hiking in the country along the Beara Way.
Point being that you might consider a base a bit more central to things to preclude spending most of your days on the road.
Personal bias speaking here, but another
suggested home base would be in or near
the village of Clifden (north of Galway). It's central to the Connemara area (our favorite), the ferry out to the Aran Islands, the Cliffs, the Burren, etc.
