Lodging before and after Skellig Michael

Greetings fellow travelers,

We are headed to Ireland in June and planning to go to Skellig Michael for a day. I know it could possibly be cancelled due to weather and would rather not stay in Port McGee. Any suggestions on a town to stay in within an hour from Port McGee?

Thanks,

Anywhere on Valencia Island or Waterville.
Also, if you really want to get on Skellig Michael, best to plan several days.

There are a number of fine B&Bs in the area around Waterville. They're easily found on online websites like Booking.com and searches. When traveling to Ireland in June, weather will be just fine. And that part of Ireland has stunning scenery.

Also consider staying a little further up the road in the vicinity of Glenbeigh and Killorglin. Either would be centrally located for the short drive to the Gap of Dunloe, Killarney (if you must) and the National Park, and Dingle would only be about a 1+20 drive away - Lots of other options if you can't make it out to the Skelligs that day.

Are you interested in self-catering? We stayed at Cul Cottage on Valentia Island. A cozy little traditional cottage with great views. It is the most charming place, sleeps 4, open fire, good walks.
