Ireland lodging reviews

Just returned from May 2019 Ireland trip and have comments about our lodging choices.

Dublin - Castle Hotel: Highly recommend. Great breakfast. Good location to walk to most tourist sites. In Rick's book.
Kilkenny - Carraig Rua B&B: Highly recommend. Friendly owners. Lovely breakfast room. Good location to walk to sites. On site parking. Not in book but I think it should be.
Kinsale - Cloisters B&B: Highly recommend. Lovely owners. Charming rooms. Great location for walking. In Rick's book.
Tralee - The Park Georgian House B&B: Recommend. Nice location. Large rooms. Nice owner. Not in book as Rick didn't mention staying in Tralee.
Galway - Asgard House B&B: Adequate but would recommend trying to find another place. Most expensive of all the B&B's we stayed in. Toilet was very difficult to flush, taking 4 or 5 tries. Light over bathroom sink did not work. Very small room, bathroom, and shower. Needs updating. Did have lovely breakfast atrium overlooking beautiful garden. Was a good location to walk to city center but there are a number of B&B's all in a row so I would try for another one. In Rick's book but I would say to take it out.
Trim - Highfield House B&B: Highly recommend. Beautiful house. Lovely owner. Fantastic location across the street from Trim Castle and the walking path. In Rick's book.

I have to disagree about the Highfield House in Trim.
When we checked in (September 2019) we were told that the toilet in our room was not functioning. No other rooms available. The owner tried to fix it and could not. We were told to use the public toilet on the ground floor; very inconvenient in the middle of the night.
The next day we changed rooms - toilet in the new room still required a good 3 flushes until a successful flush was achieved.
When we checked in to our new room, we would not have been surprised to find a bottle of wine or maybe some flowers. Nope.
When we checked out, we expected a discount or some kind of compensation. Nope.
Galway - stayed in the Petra House. Beautiful spot and nice people.
Dingle - we loved Bambury's Guest House.
Belfast - Malone Lodge is very good.
Dublin - Schoolhouse Hotel is very good.
Derry - Merchant's House is great.

We're on our way to Kinsale and Cloisters in a few days, so good to hear that you were happy staying there.

We're currently in Dublin and staying at Ariel House B+B in the Ballsbridge area. It's very lovely with great selection of breakfast choices, and very close to the DART or buses, if you don't want to walk the 20 minutes into the city centre. There are a number of restaurants, banks and small grocery outlets nearby. If you don't want the noise or bustle of downtown Dublin, this is a good choice.

Kinsale's best is Friar's Lodge, Friars St, Rath More, Kinsale, Co. Cork, Ireland, Phone: +353 21 477 7384. They actually have real parking for real cars. Once you have parked, never drive thru Kinsale again.
