We were in Ireland in 2012 and loved the following restaurants:
Kinsale - Fishy Fishy and The Bulman
Dingle - Ashe's Pub
Dublin - Matt the Thresher and Chez Max
We love great food as well and were traveling with a teenager. These were all great.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the restaurant listings in Rick's Ireland book, either. When I last went with our guided tour, we had lovely meals at places that were in the book. The first "proof" will be when you peruse the menus and find them temptingly more varied than what you expected.

A simple way to find out about good restaurants while traveling in to see if there are food blogs on line. People love blogging about favorite restaurants and meals. Now if you were visiting Belfast I'd tell you to go to Mourne's Seafood next the Kelly's Cellars off of Chapel Street. Best fresh mussels and seafood chowder I've had anywhere!!!

maryann, in Dingle there are two that we really enjoyed: Out of the Blue Seafood and Lord Baker's. I had a warm mackerel salad at Lord Baker's that was excellent, plus it's right near St James Church, in case you happen to catch some music there. Out of the Blue is creative, upscale seafood, really good. I had a Lemon Posset there for dessert and liked it so much I learned how to make it myself after we came home.
In Dublin, The Pig's Ear is the place to be, imho.
And I would second Claudia's suggestion of Mourne Seafood in Belfast, I had the chowder there too!
Have a great trip!
