Doolin- Knockaguilla B&B and McGann's Pub

There's no shortage of B&B's in the Doolin area- and larger hotels/inns on the road to the town wharf, where you can catch the shortest ferry ride in Ireland to the Aran Islands. I highly recommend the Finucane family's Knockaguilla B&B. Situated on a quiet road just two turns from Doolin, it's a newly constructed, owner occupied facility where Marie cooks and bakes and sets out a delicious breakfast of freshly baked breads, waffles, fresh mixed fruit, yogurt, meats and cheeses, coffee, teas, juices and incredibly delicious local, fresh milk. There's a spacious room on the first (ground) floor with a large en suite bath and a couple more on the short flight up to the second (called first floor in Ireland and the UK- as you reserve).

Wanting to listen to Irish "trad" music, Marie recommended McGann's. As Ireland has a zero tolerance alcohol policy (one pint will register on the breathalizer and you're cooked!), Marie's husband, John, dropped us off at McGann's (Wow!), where we enjoyed some pub food, a pint and the lively music. Ready to turn in and drive to Galway the next day, we called for a taxi. Though armed with a long list of phone numbers for taxis, courtesy of Marie, a festival in Lisdoonvarna kept them busy there. I showed the bartender the list, told him they were all making money out of town and asked if he know any others who could take us back to our B&B. He said, "Give me five minutes and meet me out front!" In five, a car pulled up with bartender Liam in it, who drove us to Knockaguilla! He wouldn't take any money! (But we mailed him a thank you card with a good tip in it!). Unreal! Doolin wound up being one of our favorite places we visited! It's rural nature, peace and quiet and friendly, warm and kind people touched us. Go to Doolin, stay at Knockaguilla B&B and visit McGann's!
