Belfast One Night stopover

We have a stopover for a night in Belfast at the beginning of May
Arriving in Belfast 9pm leaving at 11am.

1) What good area should we stay in to be able to walk around at night and be able to feel the city/have a good drink?
2) What can we visit? (I've seen the Titanic museum is pretty popular but they're not opened that late...)
3) Should we rent a car or would public transportation be more convenient?
4) Do US citizens need any passports?
5) Any other tips/recommendation?

Thanks :)

Nothing is going to be open at that time of night save for a few pubs with many closing at 11pm, while a few others stay open to 1am. Of course you need your passport. Anytime you travel outside of the States you need your passport. Belfast isnt a large city so use a taxi from the airport to where ever you are staying. Stay in the city centre but do not expect bright lights and a city open for business 24/7 like NYC, London, Paris. Given your time frame you'll be lucky to see and do much of anything except maybe walk along the river path.

Spend a few hours at the Crown Bar on Great Victoria Street. It's a famous and iconic Belfast pub. Even if you are not drinkers, go there for a meal and soak up the amazing architecture and atmosphere. You might be lucky enough to catch some live music.
