Attn: Chocoholics going to Ireland!

We stumbled on Hazel Mountain Chocolate Factory on a recent trip to the west of Ireland. And what a find! They're one of two chocolatiers in Ireland making fine chocolate from the beans on up, and they rival Seattle's Theo Chocolate. Ah, the smell of the place. After a tour of the small factory by the owner we had cocoa and dessert in the cafe next door (best cocoa ever). We were so revved up from the chocolate smell we drove off singing Elvis hits.

A side benefit is that it's smack in the middle of The Burren, a fascinating geologic region we'd been trying to find for three days. So the trip itself to Hazel Mt is a show-stopper. Nearby (somewhere) is The Perfumery and the natural scent of the place was like a Zen bath and calmed us right down.

You'll need a car to get there. I can't even give directions because we followed signs, it's about 30 minutes out of Kinvarra. So this is your adventure, but it's a lovely drive. Be sure to ask the owner how they started in the chocolate biz, it's a great story.

What a delightful post! I particularly enjoyed the image of you all driving off into the Burren while singing Elvis.

Great post, thank you! I'll give it a try next time, but I'll need to practice "Suspicious Minds" !

Thank you! A friend recommended visiting the Burren and this helped decide the route we will take. #chocolateislife
