Having a hard time finding a place to stay. Need 3 rooms for 5 people for 2 nights towards the end of September. This place is available but don’t know anything about the area. I’m more familiar with the other side of the river-the areas around St. Stephen’s Green, St Kevin’s, and Trinity College. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks
We stayed near St Stephen's Green and Trinity College while in Dublin. After a trip around the Republic and Northern Ireland, we stayed one night in the O'Connell Bridge area at the Holiday Inn Express before our airport departure the next day. Your hotel is right across the bridge along the water; an easy walk over to the "other side" by Temple Bar. The O'Connell bridge area is ok for a couple of nights. It's very commercial; lots of chain type stores, etc. O'Connell street is very busy. Doesn't have the charm of St Stephen's area, but when you look on google maps at your hotel, it's right along the river; restaurants nearby; close to the bridge; whereas our hotel was about a 10 minute walk further deep down O'Connell in a less charming location. Oh and with a disco below the hotel that stayed open until about 2am. Yikes, no mention of that everywhere. So anytime I mention Dublin hotels, I say double check that there's no disco underground!
I stayed right down the block from that hotel two weekends ago at the Zanzibar Locke at Ha'Penny Bridge. I mean, the area is fine. The street is pretty crowded all day. Could be noisy - my room at the Locke faced out the back and I still heard some party noise Friday and Saturday night.
On the plus side, everywhere I wanted to go was easily reached on foot, but the Abbey St. tram is just two blocks away too. There are loads of shops and cafes within just steps.
I wouldn't want to spend a week on that street but for two nights you should be fine.
Thank you for the info. We were able to find availability at the Drury Court so switched our reservations. Seems to get better reviews.
