Iceland Air Baggage

Hi..Anyone have any experience with flying Iceland Air and the baggage guidelines? We have the dimensions and know it could be cutting a little close based on our luggage. Are they super strict? I know it's better to be safe and go under or the same dimensions. ty

You're welcome, gritz! Enjoy Iceland! When are you going? My daughter and I are headed there in July.

I’ve had no problem flying from Denver, Frankfurt, and Rekjavik. Most of those reporting problems seem to be flying from Seattle.

Just because one person says they haven't had a problem at a certain airport doesn't mean you won't. It is really up to the gate agent on duty.

I have flown a few times from JFK and sometimes they check, sometimes they don't.

I have heard such varying stories, but here in Seattle, they are very strict, even for Saga class. We have been many times and every single time they weigh the bag and for carryon they make sure it fits in the sizer. This is for both the carryon and personal item.

Your daughter may or may not get dinged, but she should consider the repercussions if she does.

If she gets a free checked bag with her ticket, but doesn't use it, she may get off with them just sending the bag to be checked, and she doesn't have to pay anything. If she doesn't have a free bag, she'll have to pay the baggage fee, plus possibly an extra penalty fee, which could be up to $100 or more. If she is very lucky, and the flight is full and they really want to keep that overhead space open, they might just check it for free.

But she really won't know until it happens. I'm not willing to take that chance, so I'm going to be checking my bag, especially with an airline that I haven't flown before and because it's free. I know how my bag will do on Delta, KLM, Air France, and any other number of airlines, but I don't know how Icelandair will treat it and I'm not willing to take the chance of having to pay a high fee. But I am not a risk taker. 😊
