parliament building and St Stephen’s Basilica with kids

Hi All,
We will be traveling to Budapest in June with kids (age 8 and 11). Is a guided tour of the parliament and St Stephen’s Basilica needed. Can I just buy tickets for those attractions from the official website? Do you recommend any other guided tour of Budapest that kids would enjoy?
Thanks

With regards to tickets, definitely buy your Parliament tour ticket ahead of time. They might cancel it if Parliament is in session, but your money will be refunded if that happens. That said, I would probably consider scheduling it at the beginning of your stay rather than the end, just in case. You actually have to take a guided tour, and that is what your ticket buys when you purchase it. I believe it takes about 45 minutes. You can find all the information you need on this website. I would suggest booking this as far ahead of time as possible, as tickets do sell out here quickly. https://www.parlament.hu/en/web/visitors/important-information

As far as St. Stephen's, I bought my ticket as I was walking towards the Basilica, so there's no need to book that in advance. The only reason I booked it as I was walking is I could see there was a little bit of a line at the ticket booth, and I didn't feel like waiting. It was much easier just to book it on my phone. I don't think you need a guided tour here, although I would suggest bringing a guidebook or guide or even a printout from a website that will tell you where the major attractions are. For example, I'm sure your kids will want to see St. Stephen's Holy Right (his right forearm), which is on display.

Thanks so much everyone. We might skip the tour of the opera house in the interest of time as we will see one in Vienna too.
