Area around Collect Residence

Good day,

We're travelling to Budapest in April for the first time. We are considering Collect Residence based on recommendations from this forum. What's the area like? Are people comfortable walking around there late in the evening?
I'm hoping there are some nice cafes and restaurants close by.
TIA

I was one who recommended this hotel. I walked around a little by myself- to the nearby convenience stores and from the metro. Walked late at night with my husband. Never felt unsafe. Mr E will be able to comment on restaurants: suffice to say we dined like royalty but caught the nearby metro to places to eat. Walkable from Andrassy Ut.

Everyone will say the places that they enjoy feels safe, but here the statistics confirm it. When I made a less than flattering government comment to my bookkeeper the other day he responded by asking where else could his 9 and 11 year old children ride a public bus to school?

The hotel is in a pretty nicely preserved section of District VI. The buildings often have commercial on the ground floor but the 4 floors above are all residential and because its a few blocks off Andrassy ut and because District VI has a short term rental ban, they will all be locals. Very nice.

The walk from the hotel up or down Andrassy ut in either direction is beautiful and and safe day and night.

Just be sure that you get a travel pass because you will spend a little time on the historic M1 metro and a few trams. Besides transportation tgey are part of the fun.

I will send a PM with a list of some restaurants and cafes that are near. With arrival and departure dates I can check out special happenings in town.

When you walk back and forth, to and from your hotel, do look up.

If you post the actual dates, I can look for events going on while you are here.

If you tell me how you arrive and depart I might have ideas on the easiest way to get to the hotel and possibly some things to see along the way.

On the list that I sent you in the PM is Kiraly 100, one of my favorites in Budapest for food and atmosphere. https://maps.app.goo.gl/vBG1H9L6uR6mmdok8 This is where I want to start making suggestions of what to see in the area, but without knowing how long you are staying … Anyway, interesting area between there and the park.

We'll be in Budapest from April 20-23.
We already have our tickets for Parliament on April 21. Rest of the day is free. Then onto our river cruise on April 22.
I don't think we'll be doing much if any cooking but might just pick up some snacks in a bakery or grocery store. There will be 4 adults so we're sharing the apartment.
Thanks so much for the prompt and very informative replies already. I really appreciate the help. Always good to get some insider info when going to a new city.

Im not insider, just an extended tourist.

I was going to tell you where to shop for groceries. LoL.

You havent got much time so you need to make the most of it. That doesn't mean move fast, that means enjoy hard.

And if there are some good grocery stores nearby , or markets, we'd love to know about them. I love to visit them when I'm traveling:)

There is a market hall not far https://maps.app.goo.gl/EnTyELFX3mEju1Sc9 The first few pictures show some vendors in temproary buildings outside the market, but thats because some renovations are on going. I think it will be done before you arrive. These things are 100% better on Saturday mornings .... or here https://maps.app.goo.gl/YEVWjEiXGH1Gid4UA which is a typical Hungarian convenience store (actually better than most).

Not much on the radar yet, https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/hungary/updated-budapest-events-for-january-june-2026 bet I get we can find one or two things over the next 30 days. Well i do know a good wine tasing envent and mayb a special dinner whiel you are in town.
