Hi, I'm flying into Frankfurt, and have a work trip in Gottingen. Looking for a travel itinerary between, or near the 2. I will have 3-4 days to explore. I prefer quaint towns, nature, sitting in city centers: people watching (Maybe too cold at end of March). Solo female traveler. I'm willing to go somewhere that's "not on the way" if it's within a 2-3 hour train ride. Just don't want to wear myself out but also want to see parts of Germany I've never been to.
Marburg, also a university town, and it is on the way, 1 1/2 hours from Goettingen by direct ICE.
Have a look into Hann. Münden and Osterode am Harz.
Some tips around Hanover you can find in this thread:

Good, visit Goettingen when you have spare time. I was there for 3 days in the summer of 1987, an interesting place to visit, noted for its university.
Quaint town within a 2-3 radius from Goettingen: I suggest Lüneburg and Minden an der Weser. Both are well worth you time and energy
That sounds like a great trip! Since you enjoy quaint towns and nature, consider stopping in Marburg—it's a beautiful medieval town with charming half-timbered houses and a lovely old town center. Another great option is Hann. Münden, a picturesque town where three rivers meet, perfect for a relaxed stroll and people-watching. If you're okay with a short detour, Bamberg is stunning with its historic architecture and little Venice vibe. Hope you have a fantastic time exploring Germany!
Goslar and the Harz mountains are near Goettingen, and you could try one of these. Goslar has some nice medieval architecture, including a very old imperial palace (Kaiserpfalz) from around or before 1000AD, and the Harz mountains have a rich history as a mining region, and with folklore and witchcraft. Popular for hiking nowadays…
If you want to compare universities, go to Marburg as suggested above. Both Marburg and Goettingen are famous Uni towns.
