Strike against Deutsche Bahn (Mar 7-8; Thu & Fri) by GDL union

The GDL wants to strike again in the wage dispute with Deutsche Bahn. Passenger transport will be on strike for 35 hours from Thursday at 2.00 a.m., freight transport from Wednesday evening. Union leader Weselsky announced subsequent "strike waves" (Wellenstreiks) with no minimum pre-warning time (normally 48 hours). He expects that also the known emergency plans which keep up around 20% of trains running will be affected.

Thanks for the update again. We are traveling 21 Apr - 4 May. We are beginning to think about where and when we do not want to get stuck. Staying in München for the most of the time is an option but not a very welcome one. I am glad that I am not someone who relies upon trains to get to work.

I hope for you and all travellers that until mid of April this dispute is solved because - as you mentioned - a lot of people rely on this mode of mobility in their daily business.

A lot of German people are losing their patience about the situation.

Also a news this morning was that the number of licensed person vehicles (Pkw) has exceeded the first time the number of 49 million. Well, this is somehow the logic consequence if people feel that public transport is no longer reliable, on-time, secure and / or comfortable enough for them.

From an environmental point of view it is not necessarily a step back as long as the total number of personkilometres would not rise but they seem rising again after the Corona break (details if someone is interested). The emissions in total are going down based on improved combustion; for this reason some environmental and Diesel ban zones are disappearing again.

Hey Sharon, sorry to hear about your situation.

You posted your question here in the train strike thread. I guess the chances for hopefully good answers can be improved by two options:

A) May be you delete it here and post it in the thread which is related to strike against Lufthansa?
https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/germany/mar-7-8-thu-fri-strike-against-lufthansa-ground-staff

B) Or you open up a new own thread with headline "Rebooking experience / advice needed with Lufthansa (strike)" in Transportation forum:
