Mar 7-8 (Thu & Fri): Strikes against Lufthansa and airports (ground staff)

The next ver.di warning strike at Lufthansa will once again affect passengers. The union has called all of the airline's ground staff to strike on Thursday and Friday this week. It is to begin in the passenger-related areas at 4.00 a.m. on Thursday and end at 7.10 a.m. on Saturday. Passengers must therefore expect extensive disruptions and restrictions.

Travellers shall (re-)check their flight confirmations on LH website.

Please see also updates below regarding strikes of security staff at airports HAMburg and FRAnkfurt.

Info: Deutsche Bahn is no alternative for domestic flights on March 7 & 8 because another workers' union called for strike against railroad traffic by Deutsche Bahn. Train strike will end Friday at 1 p.m..

Hi

Traveling through Munich on the way to Rome. Got a message from Lufthansa that my flight might be impacted. Leave Chicago (US) around 9:30 pm central on March 6. Anyone have experience with Lufthansa rebooking for us? We were able to check in so I have my fingers crossed!

Thanks,

Sharon

Our flight from München to Krakau tomorrow on Lufthansa was canceled. Waiting to hear from our Agent if they can provide an alternative.

Maybe consider Memmingen - Krakau with Ryanair FR2175.
From Munich downtown is the airport easy and cheap to reach by Flixbus.

Good luck.

Update: Also Frankfurt airport will cancel nearly all departures for tomorrow (Thu, Mar 7). Workers' union called for additional strike for all security staff.

From their website:

"A strike by security staff at Frankfurt Airport has been announced for Thursday, March 7, 2024. The strike will cause major disruptions and flight cancellations throughout the day. Security checkpoints will remain closed. Originating passengers departing from Frankfurt will thus not be able to pass through the legally required security checks. We advise all originating passengers to avoid coming to the airport. Please contact your airline or travel operator for information regarding your flight."

I apologize for posting all the bad news for travellers but imo it is better to have the news as fast and reliable as possible.

btw: Lufthansa's cockpit and cabin staff agreed workers' union UFO vote to start strikes soon. So may be next trouble expected if they do not find solutions.

Unfortunately, due to the Lufthansa and train strikes our trip to Krakau tomorrow was canceled by the Company we booked thru. We'll try again in the future. It is stressful and exhausting to go thru this last minute. I sympathize for others with cancelations or stuck. We have been thru something like this before. Bags are packed. We'll probably go somewhere local this weekend.

Yes, and a flight from Prag to Wien to Krakau was offered. We would have had to drive to Prag. We turned it down. We canceled everything and it looks like all will be refunded. The way we were going we could have just driven the long 8-hour drive :(

That was not my recommendation.

Again:

Thank you, MarkK. My Lufthansa flights are not till the 16th and maybe I will squeeze through trouble. But you are right that it is far better to know in advance!
