We are huge fans of the Motel One system. I put a Dec 9 date in, and the rooms are $103.00. Rooms are a little small, but the bar area is great along with the lobby. Beds and bathroom great.

We are staying in Düsseldorf at the Hotel Orangerie in the Altstadt in early December. I have never stayed there, but I have researched many Düsseldorf hotels, and this seems like a great option.

My hotel in Düsseldorf is Hotel Bismarck, 3 star establishment located on Bismarckstrasse, ca, 2 minutes up from Düsseldorf central station.
Stayed there several times, always in the summer, always quite satisfactory and pleasant, good breakfast buffet, cc accepted if that is important. Guests are almost exclusively German though I've seen Japanese guests at times. Düsseldorf has a population of at least 6,000 if not more Japanese, ca. 1% or so of the total pop.

I stayed at Max Hotel Garni several years ago and enjoyed it, looking online it still gets good reviews.
