Dusseldorf hotel

Hi,

The area around Düsseldorf Hbf is where I stay when in town. The hotel is: "Hotel Bismarck" on Bismarckstraße 97, ca 2-3 mins from the Hbf at the end of block. It's a 3 star and very nice. Breakfast is not extra.

From the hotel is ca 20-25 mins walk to the Altstadt. To the right of the hotel, ie, 2 blocks down is the big post office. Good for getting stamps for postcards.

You can access the U/S Bahn inside the Hbf....very convenient.

The area southwards from the HBf has the usual German-station sex shops but is otherwise fine. The area northwards from the HBf around Worringer Platz is a bit more dubious. I enjoyed staying a few years ago at Max Hotel Garni, which is about fifteen minutes' walk from the station and still gets very good reviews.

I stayed at the Derag Livinghotel De Medici in 2017. It's what Rick would call "A Worthwhile Splurge". It's a gut renovation of an old mansion. I loved my small single, which still had a separate living area, desk, two flat-screens, and a massive new bathroom. The location, near both the old town and museums, was perfect. The subway was two or three blocks away. The optional breakfast was expensive, but was palatial and included chilled Sekt! I think every room is different.

Note that the same company runs a similarly named hotel in town which is cheaper and much more poorly reviewed on TA.

Edit: Because I was on the top floor, I noticed that only one of two elevators went all the way to the top.

@ Georgia...The Hotel Bismarck offers en suite rooms, one of the amenities of a 3 star establishment.

Hardly any Americans or anglophones stay there, mostly German, other Europeans, sometimes the Chinese and a few Japanese. Düsseldorf has a pop of ca. 640,000 (?), at least 6,000 are Japanese.

I see from your other post that you wanted to know about elevators at hotels. Max Hotel Garni does not have one.
