Requesting Itinerary (mainly solo trip) Feedback & any and all site seeing AND FOOD suggestions

I (27F from USA) am going to Germany for the first time ever soon, March 02 - 12th. Here is my itinerary so far. I am looking for feedback on the 6 of my 10 days I will be solo, but I will provide the rough itinerary overview for clarity of other things I will be seeing. This is long, so I apologize!

Day 1 - (Monday, 03/03): Arrive to Germany, Frankfurt airport. A family friend lives in Frankfurt, she is picking me up at 8am and we are then going to stop and explore Heidelberg on our journey down to Füssen. We will arrive that evening in Füssen and check into our Airbnb and spend the night.
Day 2 - (Tuesday, 03/04): Castle tour day! Got the King's ticket to see Castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.
Day 3 - (Wednesday, 03/05): Trip to Strasobourg, France (we are going to France on Day 3 because my friend is driving us and has to return home to Frankfurt but wanted to show me some of France) spend the night at her home in Frankfurt.
Day 4 - (Thursday, 03/06): SOLO TRIP BEGINS, take the train from Frankfurt to Munich, arrive in Munich around 11:30. Check into a cuteee hotel I found in Viktualienmarkt. Explore the area nearby. Was thinking of making this my "museum" day and other touristy landmarks in the area? Churches, gardens, etc.
Day 5 - (Friday, 03/07): Second day in Munich. Really open to ideas this day. I think I want to see Dachau which I know is not "in" Munich but it's not far, either.
Day 6 - (Saturday, 03/08): Check out hotel - Take train to Salzburg arrive around noon timeframe. Check into Salzburg hotel. I have no formal plans and sites for Salzburg yet because I just decided tonight I was going there. Would LOVE recommendations on what to do the remainder of the day/evening there.
Day 7 - Sunday, 03/09): Second day in Salzburg. I will have essentially the whole day to site see more. So this is the point in my trip I get stuck on what to do. Should I stay in Salzburg a SECOND night? Or should I end my day late on the 9th, and head back to Germany? I have to fly out of the Munich airport on the 12th, and I hear there is LOTS to be seen and done in and near Munich anyways. Open to whatever you think I would get the most out of.
Day 8 - (Monday, 03/10) - open day. Could stay in Salzburg for the day and return to Germany that evening. Could fit Dachau here if it would be more feasible here instead of on day 5 (Friday). Please give suggestions!
Day 9 - (Tuesday, 03/11): Last FULL Day. Have to be back in Germany this day, & need to be in a Munich hotel. Within an hour distance from the airport. Otherwise, nothing planned. Flight departs for USA at 11am the following day.
Day 10 - (Wednesday, 03/12): Depart for USA at 11am, so really no time to do anything this day.

If you read this far, THANK YOU. I am so excited. I like to have a "rough" plan, but due to my type A personality I am trying push myself to leave room for spontaneity on this trip as much as I am comfortable with. I also no nothing about German cuisine and I love to try new foods so please any suggestions there are welcome, too. :)

If you are coming back into the Munich area on day 9, you could also consider staying in Freising overnight, as it's a quick bus ride to the airport. I've never been there, but I know it has the oldest brewery in the world there, and probably a few points of interest to fill a day/afternoon. Otherwise, we really like Hotel Torbrau right in city center in Munich.

You really should plan to be at the airport 3 hours prior to departure.

thank you, KD! I agree, I think I should be at the airport no later than 8am, so staying closer would be a great idea.

Well, all I can tell you is that I loved Salzburg and would easily have spent more time there (I was there for 3 nights). In fact, I liked it better than Munich, although I enjoyed Munich. So I would definitely vote for a second night there.

After that, I would leave on Day 8 for Munich. You could leave in the early afternoon but I wouldn't wait till evening. Once you get to Munich, get checked into your hotel and enjoy an evening in Munich. The next day (Day 9), you could visit Dachau if you haven't already or if you have, visit some of the sights you missed when you were there before.

I agree about getting to the airport by 8 am. I usually get an airport hotel if I have to be there by 7 or earlier, but 8 am isn't too bad. However, plan your train to the airport ahead of time so you know exactly how to get there.

German food is wonderful! Schnitzel is a favorite of many people and you will find it served in most German restaurants. I also love sauerbraten and of course, German sausages are the best anywhere! Sadly, it's too early for Weißer Spargel (white asparagus) season, or you would be able to enjoy that.

If you can, go to Augustiner Brewery for dinner while you are in Salzburg. This is a huge brewery started by Augustine monks in 1621. It's not a “sit down and order” restaurant – instead you visit one of the many food stands scattered throughout the buildings, pick what you want to eat and carry it to your table. If you want a beer (and most everyone does), you pay at the beer stand, pick up a large stone mug and take it to get filled from the large wooden barrel that all Augustiner beer is stored in. It was a wonderful experience!

Salzburg is charming. I'd stay 2 nights at least so you have full days. My main suggestion to you is to get Rick's guide book for Munich, Germany and for Austria/ Salzburg. Reading these will give you a good idea of what there is to see and do. Then list that out and see how many days you need for each

Agree with others, a second night in Salzburg is a slam dunk. I can’t say there’s tons and tons to see, like museums and such, but it’s a lovely place that easy to enjoy. I second Augustiner Biergarten. March will probably be too chilly for outside, but I dream of that place.

Food? Bread, bread, bread. The bread, pastry and pretzels in Germany are fantastic. There’s bakeries everywhere, go nuts. Viktulienmarkt is actually a great place to eat and try all the favorites. I thought Hofbrauhaus smelled gross and was a bummer, it’s the last place I’d send someone.

Munich has enough museums to keep you occupied and I’d recommend the Residenz too. With such a brief visit, I’d second really setting your specific sights with a guidebook. I’d vote against Dachau this time out. Just schedule-wise, there’s no need to day trip out of town. Also, sites like Dachau can, of course, be deeply affecting in unexpected ways. I’ve found it can be difficult to process when you’re on your own, with the expectation that you’ll now just continue your trip. Idk, something to consider maybe. It does seem important to you, so if you’re set on going I’d go on Friday as you outlined but only if you’re feeling up to it.

Overall, this is a great, packed trip. You’ll have a good time.

In Heidelberg get a quick traditional lunch at Vetter's. Order the weisswurst with potato salad, a pretzel, and a beer. This is best done before 1 pm.

In Strasbourg grab a traditional Asace tarte flambe at Schnockeloch, across from La Petit France. But save room for desert and order the Coupe Schnockeloch.

I usually stay at the Boutiquehotel am Dom in Salzburg and highly recommend it. If the weather is good get a table at Café Tomaselli and just get a cold plate of meat and cheese with some olives and people watch.

Augustiner has several brewhalls in Munich as well as Salzburg, my favorite being the one just up the sidestreet from the hunting and fishing museum. But if the weather is good go sit a while at the beer garden in the English Garden, up by the University.
