My husband and I will be in Hamburg for five days in August 2026. I have Rick‘s book, best of Germany and he only recommends three hotels. I am wondering if anybody has stayed in Hamburg and has any recommendations for us. Thank you.
Hi, Cathy, are you looking for a particular area? Are you flying into Hamburg or taking the train, and if so, how far do you want to be from the train station? Also, budget numbers would help - how much do you want to pay per night maximum?
Thank you for responding. We are arriving via train from Munich. I am interested in a three or four star hotel that has air-conditioning. I generally look at my Rick Steves books 1st when looking for hotels and since he recommends the St. George neighborhood area that’s what I was going to look at. But truly anywhere near there would be fine. We will be using public transportation while we’re there, and we will be flying out of Hamburg when we leave. Any suggestions are appreciated. Also, I would prefer a quieter area, I am not interested in hearing bars or nightclubs all night long when I’m trying to sleep.
We stayed here for a week - it should have been four days but the airport went on strike!

Don't be put off by the name, it's quite smart modern apartments in a very good location for food, transport and attractions.
There's a great supermarket nearby if you want to self cater.
Also, Cathy, here are two fairly recent threads that cover the same question so you might find some ideas here as well:

Originally I booked something around the Berliner Tor area but I was told there was heavy construction happening and so not very suitcase friendly and noisy. And I didn’t really want to stay close to HBF because of the sketchiness around the station.
I’m now looking at superbude in Altona which seem to have good reviews but it seems a bit further out. Not really sure how convenient it is, anyone have any feedback on location of this hotel? The area seems like a nice neighbourhood.
OP of this thread finally stayed in Steigenberger.
