Your Flight / Cruise from Spain to Italy just got moe complicated.

Actually, I doubt it will cause much hardship.

But its an interesting side note if you are traveling between the two as the Italians have temporarily suspended the Schengen open border between themselves and Spain.

It's also an interesting reminder that not all EU member state territory is in Europe.

The worst that can happen for legal travellers is being stopped at the border for document check. That may prolong entry times, but free entry is never a given. We have migrant attempts to enter illegaly in the Baltics and sometimes get border passport checks. Still, that is nothing to waiting lines in London airpots when coming from Europe.

EU passport holders can use the e-gates at UK airports. I've never had to wait longer than five minutes at those gates and most of the time I'm able to find a free gate or at the most, one person in front, so I'm usually through in no time. That will be the same experience for anyone able to use the e-gates.

Our Ministry of Freign Affairs was notified of issues at UK egates. They do not take our updated biometric passports well, like a batch made in 2022-2024. I only have this issue in the UK. I saw most of our plane told "Seek assistance"at egates by the scanner.
