Does anyone have experience traveling to Europe on WOW Airlines? They have some incredible sales from Pittsburgh right now. Even with paying extra fees which are really high, the prices are still good. Are the seats comparable to US airlines? My husband is 6' 2" and I'm wondering if we need to pay for extra leg room. We normally do on transatlantic flights. I don't have a trip planned yet but I know we want to go to the U.K. So I'm thinking of biting and filling in my itinerary later.
I have flown WOW twice from BWI, once to London Gatwick and once to Amsterdam. I was satisfied with both flights and will fly them again. You will read reviews of delayed flights, but I didn't experience any. Weigh your bags before departing, as they will be at the airport. Bring your own food and fill an empty water bottle at the airport. Everything costs extra so be prepared for that. Remember to pay for your baggage both ways. Friends of mine neglected to do this on the Amsterdam trip and were surprised upon checking in for the return home. The seats are comparable to those on other carriers. If you need the extra legroom, keep a copy of your seat assignment confirmation. Sometimes reserved seats will be reassigned at check in. A recent change is that you can bring 1 carry on bag, that can be up to 10 kg or 22 lbs, and 1 personal item at no charge. Previously you were only allowed 1 item to carry on and it had to be less than 5 kg or 11 lbs. Your stop in Iceland will be long enough to visit a full size restroom and purchase something to eat on the second leg of your trip. I recommend getting provisions at Gatwick for the return as we had just enough time to deplane in Iceland and immediately board our plane for BWI. Read the information provided on WOW's web page so you aren't unpleasantly surprised. Most negative reviews are from people who didn't do their due diligence. You can't beat their prices and they are pleasant flights if you are prepared.
