Any possibilities of attending Mass on Sunday in Rome, do you need tickets? Thanks
No, however, suggest you check the Vatican website if you want the time for the English Mass(information might also be on santasusanna.org-the US Catholic parish in Rome). It's usually at the altar to the left of the Papal altar.
Last trip, went early Sunday morning and Mass was at the altar behind the Papal altar--it's an area that is usually roped off from the crowds.
Although it is nice to attend mass in English, I enjoyed the experience just as much (if not more) when it wasn't in English. The ambiance, music and actual experience was more important to me than the actual worship or mass (I know-I'm such a heathen).
As to the last poster's comment, our mass was at the alter behind the papal altar as well, which was unique.
There is a church close to the American Embassy (and not too far from Termini if memory serves me correctly) that has an English Mass every Sunday - this is mainly geared towards the expats that are living in Rome. Sorry I can't remember the name of the church but it is across the street from the church (Santa Maria della Vittoria) that holds the 'Ecstasy of St. Teresa' by Bernini.
This info is from 4-5 years ago so please do a double check or ask at the TI.
Rereading your post, I'm not sure if you were only interested in attending Mass at the Vatican or anywhere in Rome - I'm making the assumption that you are looking for an English Mass. One other tidbit - when we were at the Vatican there were lots of priests hearing confessions in many different languages - just stand in the appropriate line.
Arnold, that church is Santa Susanna, which has the website santasusanna.org that has tons of information for tourists.
I attended Sunday Mass at St. Peter's and to this day my kids talk about that experience.
