will like to do a weekend trip from london, was thinking of salzburg, now may be too involved with airflights etc.
any recommendations of a train trip closer yet the feel of a european quick getaway??
If you want to stay in GB, try York.
York would be good, so would Cardiff or Edinburgh. All can be reached by train. If you want "the continent" take the Eurostar to Paris.
How about Edinburgh by train? Or western part of GB. I would not fly out of London just for a 2 day experience. You could also take train to Paris. I think you would wast too much time at airports to make it worthwhile. Wait to see what other posters say.
It doesnt make sense to me to take a weekend trip (eg salzburg) that eats up most of the time in airports and air travel. If you go to Europe, paris makes snes. however, why not try one of the less publicized areas of England - Channel islands, Devon/Cornwall, East Anglia (constable country, fens, Norwich) Lincoln, Rye/Sandwich in Kent; Brighton/Arundel;
In season- any of the Point-to-point weekends; Tnames valley; York
Cotswolds a few hours away from London quite a change of scenery, or Oxfordshire, or if you are there in Spring and like Gardens there is nothing quite like Sissinghurst Castle Garden in Cranbrook, Kent but that more like a day trip from London.
Check out Woodbridge, Suffolk.
I'd vote for Paris... Eurostar will get you there in about 2 and a half hours... and I think London and Paris is an unbeatable 1-2 punch of travel.
I've taken a sidetrip to Paris on the Eurostar. You can do a crazy lot in 24 hours-Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Louvre, dinner in a quaint restaurant, etc; we spent the night and headed back to London to catch our flight home. Bath is also another good daytripjust 2 hours by train from London.
I also vote for the train to Paris. Very doable for the weekend.
The Isle of Wight would make a great weekend trip.
thank you all for your replies, alot to think about!!
