Work Trip in Amsterdam - Personal Travel Around Trip

Hello -

We have a work trip in Amsterdam coming up the end of April. We are looking to go 3 or 4 days before the meeting or stay 3 or 4 days after....for personal travel. Looking at 6-7 days total in Europe. I have been to Amsterdam before but we are up in the air on what to do. We have contemplated flying into Amsterdam (from Chicago) then commuting around the surrounding countries (Germany/Luxembourg/possibly into Switzerland) or flying into Helsinki - roundtrip (great deals there now) and spending a couple days there then Tallinn, Estonia for a day then heading to Amsterdam afterwards. We would fly back to Helsinki to head back to the states.

I know that was a long, potential plan but was wondering what you would do - rent a car/take take a train to surrounding countries or is it worth the commute back and forth from Helsinki?

Thanks!

Why not visit Belgium after the work trip from Amsterdam. You can train to Ghent and used it as a base to visit other surrounding cities like Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels. You can fly out of Brussels to return home. Logistically Belgium makes sense.

Why not explore the Netherlands? For one thing, Keukenhof will be open while you're there.

Exploring the Netherlands sounds like an excellent idea. It is usually overlooked by many tourists, but really worth seeing.

Thank you all. Diving into this further and taking your advice, we are looking to rent a car and exploring the Netherlands and Belgium. Possibly tacking on Luxembourg if we add another day.
