Woolite Wash

Does Woolite wash need to be in the quart size plastic bag?
Also, the couple I am traveling with takes two plastic bags, one in her large purse and one in her over-head luggage. I read one is only allow for each traveler.

Any liquid needs to be in the bag. If it puddles when spilled, it needs to be in the bag, basically. Your friend should not be allowed to take two bags. It's one per person, not one per bag. Now she may get away with it by TSA not noticing which bag belongs to whom or something, but if she ever gets caught, she will likely one of the bags confiscated.

Kevin,, it is one bag per person, so if her partner does not take a bag then that's fine she has two as basically one is "his". I suggest you look at something else then Woolite, I started using it a few years ago and its great.. many other can attest to this.. don't be put off by where they sell it (LOL) Its called "Forever New" and its a powder washing product meant for washing lingerie , and sold in most big department stores in that section. Its great because like Woolite its a no need to scrub, and its lo sudsing, and easy to rince out, but best of all its so concentrated you can easily buy the small container and have it last 2 weeks or more depending on how much you use it for ( I just use if for socks and tshirts basically) It comes in a small plastic bottle that looks like the small baby powder containers. Doesn't leak or make mess and you can carry it where ever you want and as much as you want as its not a liquid.

Each person can take only one one quart bag for the liquids and cremes. Look at TSA reulations on internet. Instead of Woolite you might consider Forever New Fabric Care Wash. It is a powder that doesn't need to go in our "paranoia bag". Get it at Macy's in the lingerie department. It does a better job than Woolite. Woolite is a liquid and does need to be in the paranoia bag. The only liquids I take now are 100ml bottles of liquor and a little bottle of shaving oil, in case I need to shave without water. We have toothpaste tablets, Lush solid shampoo, and solid crystal deodorant.

Forever New is a very expensive powder detergent and works quite well. Recommend.

We use Camp Suses. Highly concentrated soap for the real backpacking crowd in the woods. Two or three drops per quart or so of water. 3 oz will last a couple of months.

Someone a while back recommended washing out hand laundry using shampoo as the soap. It worked pretty well for me, and one less 3 oz bottle to carry.

I also like Forever New and I get it in the lingerie dept at Macys. I measure out in snack bags, throw in a plastic TBsp and mark bag with marker how many washes are in the snack bag. I've done this for several trips, so a large container of it lasts a long time.

AAh, excuse me, I misread the post. As long as one person goes through secuity with one baggie, it doesn't matter whose bag it's in.

I buy "Forever New" at Macy's, in the lingerie dept. It is a powdered soap. We have used it on about ten long trips, up to seven weeks each. You can also buy it on-line. I use it at home regularly for delicate fabrics. It doesn't cause a lot of suds either. We wash our clothes in the bathtub or shower, as long as we have two nights in the same location. Then the clothes can dry properly. We always bring along a rubber drain cover (buy at Target, mrkt, travel store) Many hotels don't have drains that actually seal, so the cover comes in handy. I use the "Forever New" with cold water on all our clothes, when traveling. We wring out our clothes by rolling them in our bath towels. That really makes a difference in the time it takes to dry the clothes.

We have found cold water detergents in grocery stores in Europe that worked just as well as Woolite. We just bought a regular bottle of it and left the remains in the last hotel room. There were a couple of times my wife really wished we could bring the stuff back because she liked it better than Woolite. I wish I could help out with a brand name but they were always different. I think that cold water hand washing is not uncommon on the continent as we have found products in France, Germany, and Switzerland without any real effort.

Which countries are you traveling to? You can just buy it over here...

We just received a catalog from Magellans.com and on page 33, item number TL484 is 10 individually wrapped packets of Woolite. They are not cheap but if you are in a situation where space is an issue this would be a very packable solution as opposed to buying a bottle of Woolite or a similar product and toting it around with you.

I also use shampoo - that's what I use the hotel shampoo for (and use my own shampoo from home for my hair).

I've used Shampoo in the past. Since my travel laundry is often just a glorified rinse in the sink, it works well enough. Now I'm using dry sheets of laundry detergent that I get at REI. They aren't liquid so you aren't limited by the quart bag and they weigh about nothing. They come in a little plastic case, not much larger than a matchbook, with 50 sheets. One sheet is plenty for some hand laundry in a sink. Three or four for a full load in a machine. When I first tried the sheets I didn't like them much - so I read the directions. You're supposed to dissolve the sheets in water then add them like liquid detergent. REI also sells other, normally liquid, products in dry sheets like shampoo and conditioner but I don't use those.

"Forever New" is less expensive than the "Woolite" packets. We always take the rubber drain stopper and wash the clothes in the shower or bath tub. You can judge how much of the soap suds you need, after your clothes are wet. You would need to use an awful lot of packets to do say two pairs of slacks and other laundry.

I used to use Woolite, but changed to Camp Suds from REI. Very concentrated and comes in a small bottle. And not harmful to the environment. :)

I do as Lexma does - shampoo. It is designed to remove body oil and such, and you only need a few drops. I, too, use thehotel shampoo for laundry and my own shampoo for my hair.

I got one of those GooTube things and take a little of my own laundry detergent from home. Only need a little dab for a few things in the sink. I personally think shampoo is too sudsy.

Forever New is available at Amazon. It comes in individual packets, too, which would be great for most folks' trips. Not as manly as an REI store, perhaps, but more so than at a lingerie counter.

I took Zote bar soap, got it from home depot for $1. Washed my whole family clothes for 3 weeks. Still have 2/3 of a bar left, so you could cut it down smaller. Since it's a bar soap, no issue with airport security.

Purex 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets come in a box of 22 in your laundry aisle; cut them in half, which will do a sink or small tub full of clothes when travelling. They are almost weightless and spaceless. They activate in water. Tried one at home with a full size load of laundry and they work fine. Much more convenient than the packets of Woolite & Tide I used to take

If you stay in an Ibis hotel there will probably be a tube of liquid soap hanging inside the shower and another by the sink. This stuff is excellent for laudndry use. Just run the water in the sink and grab the tube in a cow milking grip and squirt some into the sink. You all know how cow milking works, right?
