Women's clothes- wearing black

I have good clothes from our trip in 2008, some REI pants that are non-wrinkle, light, and a fleece jacket for layering. My problem is that they are black, and this year we are going in June. I would feel really out of place here in the USA wearing black in June, do you think I should buy different colors, or go ahead and wear black?

For our trip to Italy last June, I took black summer pants and capris, and light colored tops. Also a black velour jacket, and my black rain jacket, And a black sleeveless summer dress. Never felt out of place or wished I had lighter colors ( the tops filled that need).

If you are coming to Germany, then don't worry, black is never out of fashion here, it is seen as the stylish color, even in summer. Having colorful or white tops might make you feel more summery though. Hopefully the weather will be nice in June. Sometimes it can be quite cool and rainy in these parts.

I saw the title and thought this meant clothing for black women, lol Anyway, while you can wear black in summer, it depends on how it might be over there. I was in the UK in July, and took coloured clothing. I fit in well. Not everyone was wearing black. I don't mean Hawaiian prints (which I have never worn in my life!), but some nice colours would look good with your black. I didn't even see all black during my winter vacation in France. Sure they wore black and greys, but there were some colours as well. The midwest tends to heat up a lot here, so I avoid all black in the summer.

FYI, that would not be out of place in Seattle in June. We wear black all year. So it probably depends on where you're going. (Though head to toe black might be a bit over the top.

I wear black and dark clothing in winter but I find in summer heat in the eastern US and Southern Europe I feel much hotter wearing black at is absorbs heat and doesn't reflect it as much as lighter colors do. I used to live in CA and know that most Californians don't experience the kind of heat and humidity that exists in aforementioned areas. Be aware and perhaps bring some lighter colors as well and wear black clothing for the evenings and cooler or overcast or rainy days.

Go with the black here in Europe, no matter the time of year.

As the only man responding so far, can I say (and my wife says I'm wrong - but who cares?), respectfully, you will never see anybody (except Monte of course) you meet on this trip ever, ever again. And they will never see you. For cripes sake, take comfortable clothes that look nice and the colour be derned. And, of course, basic black is always in fashion...

Hi, you will be fine if you go with black, when I've been in Europr in the summer I've seen a lot of women wearing all black. Have a great trip.

My travel wardrobe (and my home one for that matter) is based on black. I pack 2 pair of black pants and wear one (sometimes one pair is khaki colored). I take balck Ts, red Ts, and sometimes a purple or white one. I take a balck, red, or black and white stripped "big shirt" to layer or wear as a jacket or wear alone. Covers most weather (in winter I take long sleeved Ts or turtlenecks). I often take a colorful scarf or 2 to add some spice. As Nigle said, comfort is what is important.

Black clothing is fine from a fashion stand point. However, if you are driving much, you might want to also take a pair of khakis. Solar gain can make black pants rather uncomfortable while driving. And it was 90 degrees last June when we were in Paris!

Actually, I'm not really sure why black seemed bad to me. I guess it is because here in CA it is hot in June and it would be too hot to wear. I suppose it will be much cooler in Europe and may seem more appropriate. I will bring along jeans and maybe some capri's in a lighter color in case it does get hot. Thanks everyone! I hate to spend more $$ on clothes when I already have some good ones...only problem is that the pictures may look the same as our 2008 trip!

Go with what you have. First of all black will not be out of place. Secondly nobody knows who you are so why care?

Didn't quite understand what "Black women's clothes" were. Now I get your question. You can wear what ever you feel like. Your clothes will in all likelihood be different than what the typically lady wears in any city you go to in Europe. Besides most American can be picked out easily based on how they look, how they dress, their gait, and how they initiate a discussion. The color of their clothes makes no difference in doing this. Sorry about the title! I changed it so people understand better. No, I'm not black and worrying about my clothes, just wondering about wearing black in June!

I wear black & white no matter what season. I just vary the style and fabric. It all has to mix & match, but my very favorite summer black is a lightweight (either linen or cotton knit) spaghetti strap dress. You can wear it with things under it or over it and scarves or shawls and come up with a variety of different looks.
Black always looks great.

Hi Susan. My travel wardrobe is also mostly based on black. I do travel with a khaki skort and a pair of khaki pants; all the shirts that go with my black pants go with the khaki clothing. I say go ahead and wear black. Perhaps a skirt or skort in a tan or khaki would work to keep you cool when it is really warm. My skort is from Tilley; they were expensive but washed in the sink really well. They are almost knee length so work for the evening but maybe not for churches (I can't remember if I wore the skorts to sights that would require the knees to be covered). Happy travelling.

I wear black year round here, and its never out of place. I find black especiallly smart for bottoms and travel as soil from sitting on dusty benches , bus or train seats doesn't show as easily .Black is never out of style in Europe either,, I think florals and bright colored pants would look way more out of place there then say in Hawaii or LA ,, so your pants will be fine!

Maybe in California you'd feel out of place wearing black in June but in NYC black is fine in June. I think black would be fine - where are you traveling to?

I wear black pants year round- black jeans or cut cords in the 3 months of winter and Orvis/Ex Officio scrunch cloth the rest of the year. Tshirt colors and length of sleeve change with the season as do the colors of the scarves. A black scrunch cloth jacket covers the windy nights or the flight, and a Coldwater Creek wrinkle free shirt with a tanktop also changes the blackpants again look. These all dry overnight. Edit: In my childhood in the South we switched to Navy for spring/summer. Just checked and Orvis has Navy scrunch cloth- my lingering wardrobe issues are resolved! Have a great time!

In 2004 I took all red, black, tan to Italy. Now I am going for 6 weeks in mid-September and cannot figure out how to pack for 6 weeks. Any suggestions?

Hi Susan. As a general rule, Europeans tend to wear much more drab colors than other cultures (think along the lines of black, gray, neutral tones, etc.) Bright and sharp colors really aren't their thing. So Black should be fine when you travel there in June (never heard any of my relatives who've been there in summer say they've had a problem when they've worn it). That being said, my German friend says she's been converted since moving here. You should see some of the florals she wears. LOL And my friend from Nigeria has travelled all around Europe and claims he really stands out in the crowd! :-) I think you'll be fine with black. Work it girlfriend!
