My husband and I are thinking of traveling to the French Riviera in January or February. What kind of weather can we expect and how should we plan to dress given that the area is a resort, but may be cold? Is a trench coat a good idea or something more informal? Will (rain) boots be appropriate? Thanks.
I often go in Jan or Feb to Monaco and the Riviera. By British standards it is warm and dry most of the time. I take a light jacket or fleece which I put on if it is wet or cold or windy, but much of the time I don't put it on at all. Usually long sleeves, but I usually take half long half short. If you like a trench coat take it. I don't tend to dress that way... Don't know why you'd need either snow or rain boots.
Hello Shirley. I do not like to bring a long coat in the passenger compartment in an airplane. For travel to the French Riviera in the winter, I would wear a wool sweater and a jacket, and put an insulated vest in my travel bag (my primary bag is a carry-on size bag).
I travel in winter a lot and I always bring a velvet below the knee coat. It has just a light lining in it, and with a shawl over it can be very warm, otherwise it can dress up a pair of black pants, skiet or jeans and never looks rumpled or frumpy (heaven forbid) It is lightweight enough to just roll up and it's good to go. I think its easier to pack for winter, because I always know I have my coat as my main item to build around. It's also not too hot for those days that are about 60.
