Will my netbook power supply work in Germany?

I have a standard Acer US netbook. Will it work ok in Germany if I just have a plug adaptor or is a different voltage?

I have an Acer Aspire netbook. Right on the power supply is written, "Input 100-240V-1A 50-60 Hz". That means it works with an input from 100 volts (Japan) to 240V (UK). I've used it for three trips without a problem (just a plug adapter). If yours says the same, you should have no problem.

Is yours a 3 prong plug? When I took my netbook to Germany two years ago I got an adapter from a travel store that would take the 3 prongs. It worked with no problem.

I have three of the two pin "Europlug-adapters", of various ages. All three have room for the grounding pin on my netbook's three prong plug, but, of course, the pin is just hanging there, not connected to anything. It works, but whatever protection was supposed to be provided by the grounding pin is lost. I finally found a Schuko style grounding plug adapter (www.amazon.com/VCT-VP-11B-Grounded-Adapter/dp/B003C1MFYI) at Amazon. It accepts the grounding pin and engages the clips on the side of the Schuko socket (receptacle). That's what I used on my last trip. As important, it carries the CE mark, which is required in Europe.

Mine worked just fine a month ago in Spain with just a plug adapter. They are already set up for world operation.

Charles, As the others have indicated, your Acer Netbook should work fine in Europe with only a Plug Adapter. However, it's a good idea to check the Charger to ensure that it has "Input 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz" listed on it. You'll probably find that's the case. Does the Netbook use a two-pin or three-pin (grounded) Plug? While it is possible to use a three-pin Plug with a non-grounded Euro Plug Adapter, I prefer to have the ground connected if the product is designed for it. I use a similar Plug Adapter to the one that Lee mentioned. This is the one I use: www.magellans.com/store/Adaptors___Converters___Plug_AdaptorsEA23MDG As with the Amazon model, this Adapter is somewhat "universal" as it's usable both with outlets that have the "ears" that contact the side, as well as the outlets in some countries that have a protruding ground pin. I'd suggest packing along at least two Plug Adapters, as they're easy to misplace. It's always good to have a "backup". Happy travels!

Almost all battery chargers and adapters for electronics (laptops, notebook, cameras, mobile phones etc.) work with input voltages ranging from 100 V to 240 V, 50-60 Hz, which means that they are designed for world operation with a simple plug adapter. But of course you should check your appliance before plugging it in. It should say on the adapter "brick" which voltages it is designed for.

Look at your adapter and look for where it says "INPUT". If this reads something like "INPUT: 100-240V..." then it will work. If it reads "INPUT: 120V..." then it is US only (and if it reads "INPUT: 240V..." then it is Europe only).

First, just to say to James that you were only the 7th unique poster. Second - to clarify the answer given in the first answer - read the power block and see if it matches what Lee wrote?
