Wifi, Skype and Ireland, France and Italy

Hello all, Regarding the wifi and Skype: The Skype website implies two things will cost us money: 1) internet access via wifi, and 2) Skype calls via wifi. So, I'm confused. I thought internet access was free from any "free wifi" spot. I had heard that Skype calls were free, even video, if you are calling from an iPod Touch to another iPod, iPhone, or PC/Mac with Skype software. Can anyone clear this up? Thanks!

I skyped (iPad to computer) from Spain and France last year. Using wifi it didn't cost a thing. I think it does cost when you use Skype to call a phone. When my daughter is in Mexico that is how she communicates with me. I think doing that is very inexpensive.

Not sure this helps, but you mention Ipod/Iphone. I used my iPhone and Ipad2 last fall in France to call home via Facetime. It worked GREAT! So much fun to actually see my kids at home when I called. (of course they both have Facetime on their iphones) The hotel offered free wi-fi (with a code) and we used that to call home. Sometimes the wi-fi connection wasn't great, but usually it did work. Plans are to use the iphone or ipad2 again this fall when we travel to Italy. We didn't use this in any public locations, just from our hotel.

Skype calls are always free if you're calling using skype to another skype user on their computer/device. It's calling a phone that costs money, although it's still very cheap. A few cents per minute.
