I am planning a 5 week trip to Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia. Due to having some elderly relatives I need to be close to a phone or skype during that trip. I do not have a cell phone now nor do I have a netbook or a tablet. However, I am planning on getting a cell phone for annual trips to Europe and also a netbook or a tablet for travel purposes. I will be visiting Lake Bled, and National Parks on this trip so I will be away from cities about half the time. I would like to know how common WIFI is...when you visit rural areas? And, has someone purchased an "unlocked cell phone" in Austria? I am wondering about the cost of that item and also if I should get a SIM card that is "roaming" or just get a local SIM card for each country. I wil lbe using the phone infrequently in Europe and only for emergency calls to the US? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you........ John
We've been skiing in all sort of semi-remote areas of Austria this winter. We've always had cell service anywhere on the mtn. In the high and low areas I'd use my iphone for pics and noticed I always had service bars. Slovenia and Croatia may have some dead areas, but I wouldn't think it would be very tough to go a short distance to find service.
