Who is Watching the Womens' World Cup in Germany?

Canada plays Germany today at 18:00 Europe time. Should be an exciting game! The US plays N. Korea on on Tues. at 18:15. Love watching the World Cup over here and hope some of the same excitment happens for this one. The opening celebration was in Frankfurt on the river last night. Really cool spectacle. I have to say, Frankfurt does know how to put on a party. If you want to watch, here is a video clip of the entire show, but go to min. 47 to skip the commentary and go on to the show. http://www.hr-online.de/website/rubriken/sport/index.jsp?rubrik=66005&key=standard_document_41885821&msg=66005&mediakey=fs%2Fallgemein%2F20110626_fussballzauber_am_main&type=v

I'm looking forward to it! I have a unique attachment to womens soccer. I used to be a volunteer at the Olympic Training Center here in San Diego and had the opportunity to watch the girls train and provide transportation and whatever else they needed from us. This was back in the day of Hamm, Foudy, Chastain, MacMillan to name a few, however they moved their training away from here a few years ago. Also, I was in Germany in the city of Bingen this time last year not too far from you, I was visiting friends I'd met on the Camino de Santiago in Spain, we watched the mens World Cup at a bar called McGoos there in Bingen, in fact it was one year ago today now that I think about it! After Bingen I went down to Rosenheim to visit other friends and watch some more games, it was something the day was planned around, we went hiking on a mountain called Herzog, at least I think that was the name, but the point is we had to be down and back in Rosenheim in time for kickoff. I was back in Madrid when Spain won it all, but that's a different subject, but the spontaneous party in the street that night was unforgetable, something I've always wanted to see.

Thanks for the reminder! We'll be sure to watch it. My husband was lucky enough to be in Germany for the men's world cup a few years ago. He was at a colleague's house in Frankfurt at a party, but their feed was just a few seconds behind their neighbor's, so they knew what was coming before it happened. Our son was born before the world cup in Korea in 2002. He came 2 weeks early, just in time for the first Germany game vs. Saudi Arabia. That was the year that all the games were on at 2am and 5am here in the US. With having a newborn, we watched a LOT of world cup.

Dismal USA loss in Gold Cup final to Mexico last night. USA soccer could use a lift from the women.

This is where our heads are...We saw a glimpse of the World Cup yesterday and said "Oh isn't that Dresden in the background".

Well, France just beat Nigeria. Let's see what the Germans and Canadians can do now.

Well our wonderful Christine Sinclair scored but we still lost to Germany, as expected. Maybe better against France or Nigeria. In the U17 World Cup that is going on in Mexico, Canada's goalie scored from open play and we tied England! Still out of it though.

I just found out that we'll be there for the final game. It'll be hard staying up to watch it, but needs to be done, I think. When the men's was in Germany, they had floating screens on the river in Frankfurt. Any chance that'll happen on the Rhine?

They have floating screens on the Main, on both sides of the river, plus lots of stands for food, drink, and music. I was down there last night and it was such a great party atmosphere. People having picnics in the grass along the river, kids running around on the playground they have set up and the sunset was just about perfect. No entrance fee. I am sure you will have a good time there.

I saw the Germany/Canada match. Germany dodged a bullet early, but in the end they were the stronger team. I would have liked to have seen the Nigeria/France match.

I'm watching it. Really enjoy watching the women play. Their skills shine through with less diving and theatrics exhibited by their male counterparts. Especially interested as it it being played in Germany, having visited there last September.

I'm watching the College World Series. Not quite the World Cup, I know, but more important to me.

I love soccer. Used to play, love watching it, was glad to be in Europe for the beginning of the WC last summer. I didn't realize though how much watching women play it makes me miss it even more myself (as a woman myself). It takes me back to film days, watching games before practice. I tremendously miss playing. Wish I were in Germany to watch it! I am planning on making it to Brazil for 2014.

My daughter is leaving for Frankfurt on Thursday and yes, she will definitely going down to the river to watch the games on the floating screens. She's not very tall so I really hope she can get a good view in a crowd of all those towering Germans.
