I haven't found Accuweather very accurate. Anyone have better places?
Every weekend when I want to go fly fishing up in the mountains around Bassano or Valstagna I check several weather sites and have actually found Accuweather to be the most reliable.
I liked my Weather Channel app, that is until the new version that Doesn't Work - grrrrrrr. Let's not release a new version until it's ready ;-) It seems a little more accurate than Weather Underground/WunderGround.com (same thing) for my location, but still WunderGround.com is my go-to app. I really like the historical data. I don't care for the American radical left organization called Weather Underground 8^0
@Eileen you had to go and make it political. From the Left Coast, SDS member and proud of it.
wunderground.com
Ditto Monte.
I like Weather Underground as well, especially for historical data when I'm planning a trip. For intraday info and day-to-day forecasts anywhere I'll be in the U.S., including at home, I prefer NOAA. BTW, since we're talking weather, I thought I might ask about something that has perplexed me since I've been in Iowa. Many, many people I meet (mostly retired-age folks) use a rain gauge and check it daily, seemingly even if there hasn't been any precipitation. It's sort of a curious custom to me, and I can't figure out of it's an older person kind of thing, a thing folks do because agriculture is such a big deal here, or something else completely. Does anyone else out there use a rain gauge like this? I just get my precip info from the web.
Me too, I always use Wunderground for travel but for regular daily weather I find that the BBC is hard to beat and very accurate.
Speaking of weather: it was colder than a witch's broom handle when I walked with the Democratic candidates in Saturday's Genesee Community Day parade.
I just did a comparison. I'm sitting in my hotel room in Zermatt right now, enjoying rather warm weather with mostly sunny skies. I estimate the temperature to be between 25-28 ° C. Mind you, I'm not checking for predictions, just accurate reporting of the current conditions. Weather Underground says it's currently 17 ° and raining. The Weather Channel says 16 ° and raining. The BBC says 23 ° and sunny. Because this thread has already taken on a unforeseen political tone, let me join in. The score for weather accuracy? British Stratocumulus Imperialists beat Radical Barometric Leftists and US Corporate Propaganda Isobarists by a long shot!
I just checked wetter.de, which I feel is usually pretty close to reality. They say it is 14 degrees C right now in Zürich, and sunny. Some clouds headed your way later in the day, though, Tom. Had to chuckle, though ... when I first typed "Zürich," I forgot the umlaut, and they thought I was looking for someplace in Illinois. As "picky" as Colorado Lee sometimes comes across when he forcefully reminds people of correct spelling of place names, I must admit that sometimes it does matter, both for train schedules as well as weather data !
Well, NOAA shows 27 and partly-cloudy, so I'll stick with NOAA for current and forecasts and WU for actual historical data, just because it's presented in an easy to read format...since it's actuals...they're always accurate!
When I was in Rome in February, I wanted to spend a day at Villa Adriana and Tivoli. It was my last full day in Rome. First thing in the morning, I checked accuweather and wunderground - both forecasted a cloudy day with showers throughout. So I stayed in Rome, thinking I would do indoor sightseeing. It gloriously sunny all day, just an occasional puffy white cloud. I just checked for my local forecast and it's accurate - but that's not saying much. I can tell you right now with 87% accuracy the weather for the next 8 weeks: highs of 28-32 and sunny. What's the 13%? - going higher than 32 :-)
Using domestic (to the country of interest) weather sites is usually a better bet (weather forecasting being somewhat of a gamble) than a USA forecast service. For example, in Norway, I would use http://met.no/english/ http://www.yr.no/ I did not find a great German site, but http://wetterstationen.meteomedia.de/
gave us pertty good next day forecasts in the Saxony region. In the UK, just expect wet weather.
Thanks. I'm interested in European weather mostly.
I like wetter123.com also ... its part of The Weather Channel. Plenty of details, and has short-term and long-term forecasts. I use it primarily for Germany and Holland, but if you speak enough German to navigate the site, you can use it for any European city.
