Which travel insurance companies are easiest to work with if you file a claim?

I've gained a ton of info from everyone here on the forum - even though it is extremely challenging to figure out WHERE to post once one is ready to post ... so this probably isn't the "right" place, but here goes.

I've got the car insurance FINALLY worked out. Had to spend 3-weeks in "internet insurance school" but took the overwhelming advice to go thru AutoEurope and took out their best zero deductible insurance. WHEW! NOW, it's on to ME and getting some form of personal protection "just in case". I know I want the insurance that brings you back to the US if you're in trouble, and beyond that I'm still learning. I live in the US and am traveling to France. I don't have any medical issues, but if there was an accident, then what???

It seems there are far too many companies offering a vast variety of traveler's insurance, so how does one choose?

Who of you have had to file claims, and which companies made that pleasant - and which DIDN'T?

Rough Guide recommends "WorldNomad", but further digging shows that the will be a "documentation" nightmare - what I'm hoping to avoid!

When did this get so DIFFICULT???

HELP AND ADVISE PLEASE!

We've had a claim (or two) with Travel Guard and were pleased with the way they handled it. But it was a reimbursement -- they did not pay up front. Many medical insurance policies that people in the U.S. have will not pay for expenses overseas or at best it will be on a reimbursement basis. Most travel policies cover the usual things like medical expenses, lost luggage, missed flights, cancellations, and such. And most include some form of medical evacuation coverage. Be sure to read the fine print. Many policies will only evacuate you to the nearest hospital than can treat you, but there are exceptions. On the other hand, there is a company named "Med Jet Assist" that has a number of different membership plans. It in NOT medical insurance -- just med evacuation coverage. As long as you are more than 150 miles from home, they will, if medically necessary, fly you back to your home hospital in a medical jet with medical personnel. Google them and see what you think. As mentioned above, read the fine print. The devil is always in the details.

For car insurance, I had good luck with American Express (premium car insurance) when I had an accident in France last June.

I can’t compare different companies but I did file a cancellation claim with travel Guard once. It was a very easy process - fill out form, submit documents. Refund was approved and came within a few weeks. I always buy from them now but have not needed to file another claim.

Thanks everyone.

I went to InsureMyTrip and have narrowed it down to TravelSafe Classic policy or Crum & Forster Worldwide Trip Protector Plus.

I'm leaning toward the TravelSafe Classic, even though C&F provides identity theft 'assistance'.

Anyone have any real life experience with TravelSafe and that policy in particular?

Much obliged!
