I will say after seeing Rick in person, I didn't realize he was so tall. So that was a shock to me.

He is the nicest person - he came to Cincinnati many years ago to give a talk at the downtown library and a friend of mine and I went. We got there early for a good seat and expected to wait about 45 minutes before he appeared. However, he came out about 20-25 minutes early, saying he was bored and asked if anyone had any questions. So for the next 20 minutes, he wandered around the audience talking to people and answering questions. Very nice of him and certainly something he was not obligated to do.

6' is about average

Off by 3 inches. Every reference I've checked sets the current average height of adult males in the U.S. at 5 feet 9 inches.

On the trip of 2011 when we took our kids to Austria, Hungary, Croatia, and Slovenia, my daughter named our travel diary on Facebook "In Rick Steves we trust".

How lucky can a traveler be to meet Rick Steve in person while in Europe! A WoW moment for sure! I enjoyed seeing this, thanks for sharing.

I like how happy he was to see her carrying the book!

My friends were in the Cotswolds and ran into him outside their B&B! They had their picture taken with him, but their RS tour book was upstairs or they would have held it in the picture.
