Where to stay to go up the Jungfraujoch early January?

Hey folks

Been trying to find a place to explore (walking), that is also close to the day trip to the Jongfraujoch.

I had planned staying in Interlaken for 3 nights, and do a day trip to the Jongfraujoch, what do you suggest?

Stay in Gimmelwald not Interlaken. To learn more, purchase RSEs Switzerland guidebook.

I suggest u look at Lauterbrunnen. It is the berner oberland area which Jungfrau is a part of. It is the valley floor where there is plenty to do while u watch for the all clear for the ride up to the Jungfrau summit. For those on a budget there is a nice family hostel and many choices for (hotels but book soon.

Wengen or Lauterbrunnen. Most here never recommend Interlaken. I have been to the area first in 2017 and then 2019 .

Note that if you get too far into January, the circus (the famed Lauberhorn ski races) is in Wengen January 17-19 in 2020 and is a big enough deal to make finding lodging at this point difficult or even more expensive. And even early January might be tight with people arriving into the region to help set up for the race.

Announcer #1: Why do they call that turn the Canadian corner?

Announcer #2: Lots of Canadians have crashed there.

Be sure to check the Webcams to find out what the weather is like at the Jungfraujoch before you make the trip. If the top is shrouded in fog with high winds, you won't be able to see or do much except tour the Ice Palace and shop in the overly expensive souvenir shop. That's an expensive trip so it would be a waste of money if there's bad weather at the top.

I normally prefer to stay in Lauterbrunnen as it's the transportation hub for the area and therefore easy to get to either side of the valley from there. If you'd like a slightly cheaper trip, you could also look at going to the famous Schilthorn.
