I'm spending two nights in Frankfurt and am wondering where to stay. I was thinking Hotel Victoria, but it looks like it's 1 block from the Red Light District and according to Rick Steves, some streets in the area can be sketchy. Since i'll be traveling the first week of December, it'll be hard to avoid walking around when it's dark out. Suggestions welcome.
Theresa, a good compromise of proximity to the main train station and calm, save location and reasonable price is the IBIS hotel Centrum. It's about a 5mins walk from the train station towards the river. It's not at all linked to the red light district but it's close to the river's embankments. To downtown and the Xmas market you can walk along the embankment. To the restaurant and bars district of Schweizer St. or the fashionable Westhafen district it's also just a short walk.
Thanks for the suggestion. I've stated at Ibis hotels before and don't fancy them -- too sterile.
That's true, they're sterile plastic hotels. Well, in this case how about the Best Western Hotel Domicil. It's in the heart of downtown, bars and restaurants nearby, no red light district connections whatsoever, and the closest S-Bahn station "Konstablerwache", which is not more than a 5mins walk, is directly connected with the main train station and the airport (S8 and S9 trains). The NH hotel Frankfurt Mitte/Center is also a very nice one and 2 blocks from the Best Western.
Thanks, I'll check them out.
