My husband, 7 month old baby and I will be traveling to the following places next week. Hannover Berlin Munich Prague Salzburg Bratislava Budapest
Amsterdam We need recommendations for very affordable accomodations. Hostels, guest houses, etc that are central to attractions, sightseeing and allow kids. Thanks
Circus hostel in Berlin, Sir Toby's hostel in Prague, Home Made Hostel in Budapest. All three of these places were very affordable, centrally located (except for Sir Toby's, but it was only a short tram ride from Old Town), and I would not hesitate to stay at either of these places again.
Hi, If you're interested in staying in a hostel, Wombats is located in Budapest, Munich, and Berlin. The one in Budapest is the newest. I stayed at Wombats in a dorm room in Munich located a few mins from Munich Hbf. In Berlin it's located in the eastern part of the city. Wombats does have private doubles en suite where you pay per bed. As for staying in Hannover, I don't recommend that. The DJH hostel (HI) is located way out there, stayed there a couple of nights one time...enough. Unless you have to stay in Hannover, I would suggest staying in Minden an der Weser, ca. one hour to the west. It's on the same trunk line to Berlin, transfer at Hannover Hbf to take the ICE to Berlin Hbf. Minden is much more pleasant than Hannover, more interesting also.
Lisa, With your departure so soon, I'd suggest using tripadvisor.com to see what's available.
Have a great time.
We have also had good luck with www.booking.com
In Munich we like to stay at Novotel Messe, because we drive there, so it has quick autobahn access and easy parking, then take the local train in to Munich. Salzburg-Star Inn just through the tunnel in to Salzburg is super easy and convenient. 5-10 min walk though the pedestrian tunnel in to the old town.
I'm not sure how you define "very affordable"; it means different things to each person. If you'd like other specific recommendations, please post your price point in actual currency. In addition to the resources above, you can look at http://www.hostelworld.com/, http://www.hostelbookers.com/, and http://www.eurocheapo.com/ (scroll down to get all their covered cities). The first two have reviews from past guests, and the last has neighborhood descriptions that are very useful. And before anyone else says it, none of your places are in Eastern Europe, as Europeans usually define it (this can be a sensitive issue - be careful). Some are in Central Europe, and others in Western Europe. Half were never behind the Iron Curtain, so they wouldn't have been defined as Eastern Europe, even using the "standard US definition" (which, as I said, is not accepted by most citizens of those countries).
