Where to stay in Copenhagen

Going there about a month from now for the first time, 4-night stay.

I have initially been targeting the area around Kongens Nytorv or the Norreport metro stations, since those have direct metro lines from the airport and they also appear to be mostly around the middle of Indre and al the sights.

Generally try to minimize using public transport, prefer to walk as much as possible.

But there are some better lodging options in the area around the train station and Tivoli and looks like it's just as easy or easier to get to and from the airport to the central train station.

Has anyone stayed in that area, found it more time-consuming to reach the other parts of Indre? Guess I would probably use travel passes and use the metro and other transport more.

I don't know if I would have time for it but I may try to get in a day trip up north or to Malmo, across that bridge. So maybe being near the train station would be better for that scenario.

We were in Copenhagen in 2019 and stayed at the Marriott on the canal. it was a great location and hotel. But I have always remembered some people talking about the Andersen Boutique Hotel...other than hearing them rave about it, I don't know anything else. We loved Copenhagen!

We stayed in a Danish couple's apartment in Indre By’s Norrevold neighborhood near the lakefront of Peblinge So. It was perfect-- quiet at night yet close enough to the center so we could walk just about everywhere and we only needed to take the metro for the 3-minute ride to Centraal Station when taking a train out of town. The area gave us a look at life in a Danish neighborhood that seemed to be unaffected by tourism. Tivoli and the Centraal Station vicinity are, of course, quite impacted by tourism.
Have fun in København!

Last summer we stayed at the Copenhagen Admiral Hotel right on the water which we really enjoyed. We were within walking distance to just about everything, except Tivoli. They also have a great breakfast spread.

I've booked near Norreport, seems to be in the middle of everything. Still probably need to use transport to get around everywhere.

I stayed near the train station back in 2022, and had no problem getting anyplace. I especially liked it as I took a day trip to Roskilde and it was easy to get to the train. I also liked that I could go to Tivoli in the evening and have a lovely walk back to the hotel. It's not the prettiest area but it worked fine for me, and there were plenty of good restaurants in the area.

aghast11, which hotel in Norreport did you book? I'm considering this area for my trip next year.

I've looked at that one. Please consider coming back and reporting/reviewing when you return? :-)

Chose it for location and reviews and price.

All the hotels seem pretty expensive and rooms are small. A common complaint is lack of room for clothes so some people had to keep their clothes in their suitcases.

I looked at Airbnb and it's weird, I've had 4 or 5 say their property is no longer available on the dates. Like there's a conflicting booking, they're renovating, all kinds of explanations.

Yet some of the properties still show up when you search for the same dates.

Whatever, if for whatever reason, they don't want me, I'll look elsewhere but I've never had that happen with Airbnb before.

The Airbnb listings all exclude tax. I wasn't sure if you had to pay the 25% tax that hotels charge but one Airbnb hosting company says yes they all have to pay because the 25% tax is VAT applied to all goods and services.

So be aware when you search that the rates shown usually don't include a very high tax.

Ibsens Hotel at Vendersgade 23. is another moderately-priced, well-reviewed hotel near Norreport.

Yes, around Kongens Nytorv is my favorite. Maybe towards Rosenborg palace or Amalienborg. The metro to the airport is much faster/ more convenient than a train from downtown.

The train station is also the center for druggies and garbage on the ground. I think one could have a bad impression of Copenhagen if you stayed near the train station.

The Absalon Hotel is 1.5 blocks behind the main train station. On our last visit, the rooms had just been completely redone in a modern motif, and it's very nice.

But the best thing is that their breakfast buffet was absolutely in a class of its own. We've never had a better breakfast anywhere.

We'll be back to this place. And it's so nice just being a few steps from the train station going to the airport.
