We leave for Italy soon. We will be storing our credit cards, passports and tickets in a money belt that will be on us. Where is the best place to stash the copies? In our luggage? What if our luggage gets lost or stolen? should one person wear the copies in a money belt?
any other safety tips? We will be traveling by car for part of the time.
I scan my copies and put them on a thumb drive, which I keep hidden in a locked bag in my hotel room.
Tami's idea is great.
another option is scan them and save them in your web based email account.
Keep a copy in your luggage, another copy somewhere else on your body, an electronic copy on a flash drive or in an email account, and a copy at home.
But you don't need to be paranoid about loss or theft. Just be prepared.
Just keep in mind that if you access that info via a public computer, internet cafe, hotel computer, etc. you have assurance of any security.
I usually keep the copies in my bag (don't copy your credit cards, just write down the numbers and a non-800 phone number to report if it's lost or stolen). I also give copies to a person at home that can fax them in a pinch.
A thumb drive would work well or emailing them to yourself. Probably the more options you give yourself, the better.
We have copies for our "baby sitters" that can be faxed, and also keep a scanned copy in a file that can be accessed by Email.
If each of you has a money belt (a good idea), you can keep your copy in the other person's money belt.
I do like Adam.I make copies of my passport and write important numbers on it.Then my wife carries it in her moneybelt.I copy hers and carry it in mine.
Another idea is to scan them and put images on a secure web page so that it can be pulled up anywhere (like the email idea).
