Where to head for the month of February?

I'm trying to plan a last-minute trip -- for four weeks in late January/February -- not an ideal time to travel, but it's hard to time heartbreak with good weather and I very much need to get away.

This will be my fifth trip to Europe, and my second solo trip (I'm a young woman). I've previously visited Berlin, Dresden, Salzburg, Vienna, Venice, Florence, Rome, Paris (twice, once solo), Amsterdam (solo), Lisbon, Barcelona, Tarragona, Montserrat, Geneva, Lausanne, and Luxembourg City. I've enjoyed aspects of all of these cities, but the ones I've loved the most (and the most comprehensively) would be Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Venice, Lisbon, and Barcelona. Luxembourg City was dull; Geneva lovely, but too sanitized, expensive, and quiet; Amsterdam's party culture was exhausting and hard to avoid (traveling solo = lots of invitations to do drugs with total strangers) even in the daylight, though I enjoyed the early mornings and the outer rings of the city. I live in a major US city, and am used to traveling solo in the US. I love walkable cities, art, architecture that are welcoming to solo female travelers. I'm not into clubbing or parties. When I traveled solo previously, I ate at cafes every meal, and divided my time between art museums and exploring on foot.

Given the winter weather and short notice... I was hoping to come here for advice on an itinerary. I'd most like to see more of Spain (Madrid, Toledo, Sevilla, Granada, Zaragoza); France (Arles, Annecy); Italy (Verona, Milan, Siena, Ravenna most of all); go deeper into Eastern Europe (Budapest and Prague); perhaps a Brussels/Bruges/London/Edinburgh/Dublin trip.

With 3-4 weeks, I was considering these (open to ideas):

Madrid (edited to add: 6 days, day trip to Toledo, possibly Segovia or El Escorial)
Granada (2 days?)
Sevilla (3-4 days?)
Zaragoza (2 days?)
Fly elsewhere... either
Brussels (3-4 days) and Bruges (1-2 days), then London (5-6 days), then Dublin (3-4 days)
Or else, substitute Prague (4 days?) and Budapest (5 days?)

This post feels rather aimless -- a reflection on its author at the moment. Any guidance on good February destinations, tips for traveling solo with a broken heart, etc., appreciated.

Spain sounds good. I don't know anything about Brussels but I think Bruge might feel painfully romantic so best avoided this trip. If you go to Central or eastern Europe you're right it will be chilly. London will be a fantastic experience. There are other uk cities you could explore that are all very safe and friendly and great for exploring on foot - Bath, Cardiff, York, Leeds even relatively unknown Hull which has just been the UK capital of culture. Watch out for the 6 nations rugby match fixtures. In cities like Dublin, Cardiff and Edinburgh it might get quite rowdy when their respective home nations are playing.

I'm really surprised there aren't more responses to this. I always wanted to be able to do a last minute vacation and see how it goes. Actually I'll probably have opportunities going forward since my wife just took a different job that changes our flexibility for part of the year in a really good way.

It's hard to pick apart that destination list. It looks pretty reasonable to me. I was sorry not to see Toledo there, but with a lot of time in Andalucía, it's probably not as essential.

I wouldn't bother to stay in both Brussels and Bruges, though, since they're just about an hour apart by train. Maybe use Ghent since it's sort of midway?

Do any of these places have memories attached which relate to the reason for your heartbreak ? Might be best to avoid them for the present.

Whatever you choose I hope that it helps with your heartbreak and gives you a boost so you can pick yourself up.

Hope you feel better soon.

If you are looking for fairly good weather, that would pretty much leave the south of Spain.

Anywhere else in Europe can be just about anything in terms of weather. How much rain/ snow/ grey skies can you put up with?

If I wanted to get away this time of year especially to rid my mind of heartbreak, I'd head for the Alps and go skiing. Both the skiing and the après-ski activities are great fun especially if you're traveling on your own.

I hope wherever you choose, you find enjoyment so much that you leave the heartbreak far behind you never looking back!

@acraven -- ah, yes, Toledo -- absolutely. I was just thinking of it as a day trip from Madrid, but would not miss it.

Thank you all for your responses. I'm trying to go only to new cities this time around, and avoid some of the ones that are now tangled up in memories.

It will be Carnival season in mid-February which may make trains and hotels busier at some locations, such as Cadiz, Spain. Near Milan and Torino, I highly recommend the battles of oranges at Ivrea.
