I have a window of up to 3.5 weeks from the end of January 2014 to travel somewhere in Europe. I've been to Italy twice in February in the last 4 years and am probably going to Sicily later in the year, so Italy is out. This year I went to Andalusia. Any suggestions? Has anyone been to Portugal in the winter? I don't want snow and freezing temperatures, but if you folks don't come up with something else, I may just have to bite the bullet and spend 10-12 days in Paris.
Why not Thailand or Cambodia? They're great at that time of the year. February is bound to be cold and rainy everywhere in Europe, including Portugal.
If you google for the weather you'll see that the temperatures in southern Portugal for February are better than for Paris. I'd opt for Paris, though, because I always do. I have spent two weeks in Portugal off season and it was great, but it was later than February.
If you want to keep it reasonable (except for maybe flight) why not look at Guatemala... great weather, beautiful culture, Mayan ruins, Jungle, Lake Atitlan (that rivals Lake of Constance in Germany) and colonial Antigua. I have a great guest house that I stay at for under $200 a week, private room and bath as well as 3 incredible meals a day.
Costa Rica and Guatamala are about 7500 miles from here. Thanks anyway.
As long as somebody else brought up the rest of the world........Ghana. It's become as good as Thailand was in the sixties.
Haven't been there yet myself, but have you considered Greece? Or Turkey?
What about Morocco? Or South Africa? Or - my favorite- Australia?!?! We were there in July one year- their winter- but even then it was amazing!!! February would be ideal, I'd think!
There are no direct flights between Tel Aviv and Guatemala. Accommodation might be cheap in Guatemala but the ticket alone will cost as much as three weeks in Europe. Paris or another big city would be a good choice in February. Lots of indoor activities. Have you considered the Canary Islands? They're geographically located in Africa, but politically part of Spain. Weather is likely to be warm in February. Not very wet. The islands host a carnival from February to March.
Capetown South Africa.
I'm leaning toward Paris. I just had dinner with a friend who took one of her daughters and her two daughters (11 and 13) to London and Paris last month. The more she talked about Paris, the more I wanted to return.
wherever you go..just want wish you good luck..have fun on your trip, and share your experience and tips.
I was in Rome last February and it was positively GORGEOUS. It was my first time there but I think it was a perfect time of year to go. (I also went to other colder cities in Europe and Rome by far had the best weather.) I hope you have fun!!
So Chani, where did you decide to go after all?!
