Where to go for Easter break in Europe?

My friends and I are currently teaching in Spain and get about 2 (almost 2 and a half) weeks off for Semana Santa and are trying to decide where to travel. We want to get out of Spain since we have the time to and are considering either the Italian coast/Greek islands or maybe getting an Interrail pass and doing a few places like Croatia, Hungary, Austria, Czech Rep, or Germany. Any suggestions? We understand it's not prime time to travel to the Greek Islands but they are still an option. We just don't know where to begin planning such a long trip and how to get between places. Any suggestions on which route to go would be helpful. Thanks!

We're leaning towards the Eastern Europe idea of starting in Prague or Germany and going down through Austria, Hungary and Croatia. Anything is helpful:)

I seem to remember that there was a Discount Airline with a direct flight between Barcelona and Budapest but I might be wrong. If not I bet you can fly to Vienna and then spend the week between Vienna and Budapest. The weather in Central Europe is really pretty nice in April. If you decide to go that way let me know and I will try and help.

Morocco! Ghana (direct flight from Lisbon)! If staying in Europe, ditch the "Interrail" idea. Fly to Split, rent a car and drive down the Croatian coast to Dubrovnik.

Hello Selena. I was informed that Easter Sunday will be near the end of the month April, this year. Riding in Ferry boats on the Aegean Sea to islands of GREECE begins being pleasant in the month April. But it is very crowded and busy there at and near the weekend of Easter because of Greek people traveling to an island for Easter. The Cinque Terre in Liguria in ITALY can have very pleasant weather in April. If you go to the Cinque Terre, be there for at least a few days, to have time for resting and relaxing, and walking on a high trail between Corniglia and Vernazza (that direction). And visit the hill town Lucca. If you wish to go to a country that is located south of Austria, a country that has plenty of sunshine is SLOVENIA. The train ride from Salzburg to Slovenia is pleasant and not very long. Slovenia has the various elements that American people wish to see in Europe : Alps mountains, castle, old church, art gallery, lakes, winery, Mediterranean Sea coast, and more. Short distances between the places in Slovenia (it is a small country). And hearing the spoken Slovene language is a pleasure, for me. If you will be in Slovenia at the end of the trip, you could ride in an airplane from an airport in Slovenia to the airport of Zurich to an airport in Spain.

I agree about flying.

Vueling Airlines is the big budget air carrier out of Spain, and it's one of the better budget airlines.

You don't say which airport you're flying out of. Look the airport's name up on Wikipedia, and it lists every airline and where they fly non-stop from that airport.

Hi, Selena,
You have some great ideas and I'm going to throw out another: I've heard that the Easter markets in Prague are fabulous. I am headed that way sometime at the end of March to the end of April to catch them myself. I loved Salzburg, Vienna ,Budapest, and the Bavarian section of Germany. I haven't been to Croatia, but it's on my list.

I will say that if you're still considering Italy: avoid Rome during Easter. As one who has lived in Rome for the last 5 years, Easter in this city is my version of hell...too many people, long lines everywhere, and just chaos. But, that's just me.

Let's just be honest though, you can't really go wrong when traveling, can you? Happy travels!

Hi Selena,
Don't worry about driving in Croatia, my parents were there 2 years ago and they managed easily. I wasn't there, but from their stories and pictures i can tell that it's a great destination.
As someone else suggested, Morroco is also a great option.
And what about France? it's so close that you can probably drive there.
