Where to go--first week end in June

So, I've a business trip that will take me to the UK the last week end in May with a business colleague who is a good friend. We're thinking of trying to find a cheap flight to a city that we've not been to--that means Eastern Europe. We were thinking Budapest, but maybe Krakow or Warsaw. We'd fly out of London on a Friday AM and then back to London Sunday night or Monday AM. Does anybody have an suggestions? We've both been to Prague, Berlin and Vienna. This is going to bust me out of my UK rut.

Have you ever visited Riga, Latvia? I visited Riga as a port of call on a Baltic cruise a few years ago and was surprisingly amazed at this city. We felt very safe and there is a lot going for it. There is some stunning architecture and a great old town that rivals many other Western Europen cities. Lots of restaurants to choose from and I believe, not that we were there at night, there are lots of night-time options. There are some self-walks availablen online and much more on cruisecritic.com, geared towards cruise ship travelers. I would love to visit Riga again in the future if I have the chance! I have no idea about flights to Riga from London. Hope this is an option from the many you will receive on this posting. Good Luck

Budapest, definitely likewise Krakow. Warsaw not so much, whilst the Old Town is attractive it can be toured within an hour and there isn't a great deal more to the city. I enjoyed a weekend in Tallinn, Estonia and I've definitely added Riga and Vilnius to my future visit list. I was in Sofia last September, a pleasant city but not quite enough to occupy a weekend sightseeing.

If I had a choice and I hadn't been to any of the cities mentioned I would choose Budapest. A fantastic city with lots to offer, one of my favourites.

Hey thanks. I think we're leaning toward Budapest. But we will definitely keep Riga in mind for another trip. We have high hopes that we'll both be back in the UK together again in the not too distant future. So, feel free to keep making suggestions!

Hi,

Look at Wizzair flying out of London (Luton?..not sure) to see which destinations are covered. A good friend of mine did just that after landing in London LHR from SFO, she took Wizzair to Gdansk.

The last weekend of May is a Bank Holiday in the UK, so airports will be busier than normal and the best flight bargains will have sold out months ago.

Check Easyjet and Ryanair. Options could include Dubrovnik, Lisbon, Porto, , Tallin, Budapest, Prague and Riga. All offer good value, plenty of history and the weather should be decent.

Jennifer, et al.

This link will show you almost every flight from all London airports to Europe that are non-stop.

https://www.google.com/flights/?hl=en&ei=jlnsWJeqAqrejwSX253ACA&ved=0EKkuCAooCQ#search;f=LHR,LGW,STN,LTN,LCY,SEN,QQS;t=r-Europe-0x46ed8886cfadda85%253A0x72ef99e6b3fcf079;d=2017-06-02;r=2017-06-04;s=0;mp=250;mc=m

Note that some of the spots on the map are not red, but pink and they don't show prices. Put your cursor over them and they will say no flights; but when you click on them there are flights. Don't know why. Some sort of defect in their system. Still its a great tool. I know that Czech Airlines doesn't show up on the maps and because I suspect there are others, but its pretty complete just the same.

Hi Jennifer, It's the next weekend that we're going. We are flying into the UK the week before for business, so that part will be on the Press's dime. Our colleague only decided on the date for the meeting this week. It's fascinating to me how with business we delay decisions on cross Atlantic trips, while for pleasure we plan months in advance. :) We'll be in Cambridge for the week. And I'll be back in Cambridge the week after. :)

Thanks, James for the link. We really, really hope that we'll be doing this multiple times in months and years ahead.
