Where to go after Paris in January

Hello,

I'm traveling to Paris in late december and look to spend a few days elsewhere in Europe after. Given that it will be in January, are there any recommendations for a winter stay? My current thoughts are Brussels/Amsterdam/Munich or somewhere in the Alps. I would like it to be easily accessible from paris and probably a train ride from a major airport for the trip home.

Thanks!

I've enjoyed Rome in mid-January. The weather was nice, very much like San Francisco--cool with occasional rain. The crèches were still up in the churches, which was lovely. And it was wonderful to experience Rome with no lines or crowds.

Must it be elsewhere in Europe? I would go to the south of France, given my druthers at that time of year.

Well, Munich is 6 hours away (and "the Alps" are farther), about the amount of time you'd need to fly anywhere further in Europe. So if that is "easily accessible from Paris," in principle you could go anywhere with an airport. So Rome would definitely be in.

Closer in, though, you could add Lyon to your list.

I like the idea of Rome, London, or Amsterdam. I suppose for that time of year, picking another metropolitan center would make most sense rather than a rural setting (unless you want to ski).

In your trip planning and daily itinerary, allow for the earlier sunsets in northern Europe in January (compared to many N. American locations). What you can see in a day is is more limited than at other times of the year.

The French Riviera would be nice that time of year and you could travel by train there from Paris. Lots to do and many day trips. Otherwise, easy by train I would suggest Amsterdam. There is a high speed line from Paris to Amsterdam. Expect the same type of weather-Seattle weather. Or Amsterdam/Bruges instead of Brussels. My first thought would be to fly to Sicily. But perhaps, you prefer mountains and cooler weather.

Thanks for the advice! I've been to Rome and the Riviera which is why I was thinking of heading elsewhere. We are deciding currently between Bruges/ Amsterdam or Munich/ Salzburg for our next stop. Do you guys have a preference to these locals? I've already been to Bruges and Amsterdam (not into Germany) but I just seems to be the easier of the trips.

Thanks again!
