Where to find USA-UK plug adapters in London?

Would a normal supermarket have these? Or should I go to Boots the Chemist? Only have one USA-UK adapter (lost the other one). Thanks!

Most all souvenir shops sell them...usually near the register. Also check out the gift shops at some of the larger hotels.

You can buy a very nice electrical conversion kit at the airport shop before you depart in Washington. Try Brookstone. That's where I bought mine. It's compact and works for electrical in most of the world. I've used mine all around Europe and in China.

If you're staying at a hotel, ask at the front desk or bell desk. They usually have a few. They keep the ones left behind by guests.

Thanks all for your replies. I will go to Boots! I just need one or two UK adapters, no kits necessary. At first I thought to just bring a US extension cord, plugging that in to the wall with the adapter, but then I realized that US extension cords are designed for 110 Volts AC only (and are marked as such), not 220.

... or Sainsburys or Budgens or Tescos or Waitrose or Asda - any supermarket. The adapters are universal - you can plug in US plugs or European. That's why everybody has them. They tend to run around £3.99. If you see a Pound Shop you can get them for a Pound. Pound shops have decent batteries with good expiry dates, say 8x or 10x AA for a Pound. I use US extension cords and cubes as long as they are "dumb" ones with only the plugs and no electronics even though they are marked 110-120 as long as the cumulative wattage is low - say for chargers and laptops. Been doing that for 14 years - no trouble.

I have some I'll send you, Dave. I'm just up in Puyallup. I think I know where they are. Let me know via prvt msg if you still need them... I don't see myself using them any time in the near future. Chris

They're $1.00 on this site; S&H is $6.00, though (+tax in WA?). A few keystrokes and $4.00 each isn't terribly bad. The cheapest I've seen them in stores is $2.95 + tax; usually much more expensive. RS orders always arrive at my house within a week in Northern CA. OR, spend $25.00 BY END OF MON the 5th for Free Shipping. Just some other options... And ditto on the 'dumb' extension cord; they're fine, and even necessary unless you like crawling under the bed to charge your iPod ;-). Just no 120v SURGE protectors! And buy at least 2 adaptors; I've needed to use 2 together more than once because the outlet was so recessed; also, they can end up behind a headboard or left behind in an outlet...:-(

Definitely got to Boots. There will probably be one in the airport when you land so you don't have to hunt.

Chris, thanks, but we're already in London! The apartment we are in has a few, I found, so no worries. Boots has a few too. And they are the universal type, not just US-UK ones. Thanks again everyone!
