Where to eat near the Eiffel Tower

We are taking our three adult daughters to Paris in April and I want our last night to be really memorable. I would like to take them to a wonderful place to eat but I don't want to break the bank. I looked at Altitude 95 but it is too expensive for 5. Any suggestions?

Is Altitude 95 the restaurant in the Tower at the mid level? Five or six years ago we had an absolutely divine, fixed price lunch there. I would think dinner would be terrific and worth the price. After all, it is your last night in Paris. It is not their fault our dollar is so weak.

if the budget it tight for 5 - get a big picknic and eat at the park under the tower - then go up for drinks/dessert at the tower fancy restaurant Just dress appropriately - the locals go there too as its a very good restaurant highly regarded!

I am looking for a place that has a variety of meats seeing that two of my daughters will only eat chicken. I also want it to be memorable. Something that is not touristy. Any place that you may have gone to that you really loved.

Thanks,
Joann

I think Tom has the perfect answer! Expensive restaurants with chicken are available everywhere...a picnic at the Eiffel Tower is a unique dining experience.

Joann, the above is Tom's Guide to Paris. On the home page please note the caption "Eating!". Click on it. You may find the experience you want (maybe at the time you want it, maybe not). Eiffel tower picnic is a great idea, but there should be a Plan B considering the possibility of rainout, etc ... Have a "bon voyage" and memorable last night! ... P

Some of our favorite memories from Paris during our last three trips were those magnificent picnics in front of the Eiffel Tower at night. Gathering the picnic was so much fun for my two teen daughters. And my husband and I always brought along those nonbreakable plastic wine goblets so we could sip the wine we bought as we walked toward the Eiffel Tower. Finding the perfect dessert was almost like buying jewelry...the choices were breathtakingly beautiful and the bakeries would always wrap each little pastry like a present. Some of our happiest times were the result of our tight budgets! However, this fall we're going without the girls to celebrate an anniversary and Frank's suggestion about Altitude 95 is very tempting. Frank's given me lots of good advice over the years so I trust him that this would be a worthwhile splurge. Either way, spending your last evening in or near the symbol of Paris will be an amazing occasion.

I agree with the picnic idea. Just head over to Rue Claire earlier in the day and pick up something from the markets and enjoy under a star-filled tower.

Picnics are awesome. Just be aware, if gypsy girls come up to you and ask if you speak English, say NO. They are a big problem around the tower.

One suggestion would be to have that great meal at Lunch and then have ice cream or dessert in the evening.Noon meals are cheaper and in many cases just as good.

Cafe de l'homme at Trocadero has an incredible view of the Tour Eiffel (Trocadero is just across the river)

There is a terrace here and the food is reasonable. Reservations are recommended. There is new management and the food as well as atmosphere reflect this.

Le Cafe de l'homme

17, place du Trocadero - Paris 75016
Tel : 01 44 05 30 15
Subway : Trocadéro

I have picnic'd at Eiffel Tower and it's fun, but the weather in April may not be that great for doing this, plus a sit down meal in a restaurant meal may be nicer. (you could still do the picnic too)

Try any of Rick's recommended restaurants in his Paris guide, or Frommers or any other guide -- I've found lots of information there. I like Cafe Max near Invalides -- it's quirky but nice.
