We're heading to Germany in September with a 5 month old and 3 year old and hope to have the 3 year old toilet-trained by then. For those of you who have travelled with an infant in the past where do you suggest we change diapers? We'll do some travel by train so won't have a car to access easily to do the changing. Are the public restrooms equipped with baby-changing stations like you see here in the states? I imagine the smaller communities won't have such accommodations. Are the Europeans as sensitive about changing diapers in public as Americans are?
Anne I have travelled alot with my kids when at least one was still in diapers. ( not in Europe though)
Worst is older babies, ones over 18 months or so, they need more room to be changed in, and most washrooms that do provide change tables , they are meant for smaller babies.
Point is , get older child trained, at least during day( but try not to let child know how important this timeline is to you,, LOL, kids have a way of holding back when they know you want somethng, LOL ) Plus it will save yous much space not to have to pack around two sets of diaper size
Younger baby was easy. I always changed him/ her( I have 3) in the reclining stroller. Awkward but doable. I also had the little change pad that I would put down and use , say in an area where there are no people close by, like a park . .hope for decent weather, LOL
Germans are not uptight about nudity so unless you do something really rude like change baby where people are eating I am sure no one will care at all.
We took our daughter when she was 5 months old. Changing anywhere except in restaurants (meaning in the open) was no problem.
Thank you for your advice!
