Where to buy European flat iron for travel before leaving

Sorry. I know the topic of flat irons/curling irons has been discussed at length but I couldn't find this specific answer. I want to know where I can find a not too expensive flat iron for European use (220v not dual voltage)prior to arriving as I do not want to search for it my first few days.I tried Amazon but they don't ship internationally. Also, I travel occasionally to Europe on business so I will get use out of it. Thank you

Suzann,

I was going to suggest Magellans, however the only models they appear to have available are dual voltage.

The best solution would probably be to stop by an appliance shop or whatever when you arrive, and buy one locally.

Regarding the Amazon shipping policies, I'm assuming you were trying to use one of the overseas branches?

Cheers!

The probability of finding an exclusive 220V on this side would be extremely remote. Just no market for it.

This might sound kooky but it worked for me.

I ordered a European curling iron from Amazon.de and had it shipped directly to the first inn we were staying on our trip. Amazon.de took my cc, shipping was cheap, and my package was there when I arrived.

I had emailed the inn before I made my purchase, asking if it would be OK. They had no problem. A larger hotel probably wouldn't have been so accommodating to me but who knows? It doesn't hurt to ask.

You might also try the foreign eBay sites. I frequently buy from German eBay and many sellers have no problem shipping to the U.S. Even American eBay sometimes carries European flat irons and hair dryers.

I just brought along a cheap Conair dual voltage flat iron I bought in the States at Target and used an adapter so it would plug into European outlets. End result, it worked on my hair exactly the same as if I was using it in the US with no adapter. Not sure why you'd have to get a 220V rather than a dual voltage if you are only using it occasionally on trips to Europe.

Folica.com does sell what you are looking for, but they aren't cheap (about $125)...my Conair was $20 and the adapter plugs for UK, France, etc. less than $5.

A friend of mine said she buys her hair appliances at the Metroprix (I believe I have that right) after arriving. She said they are abundant and easy to find (Metroprix, that is).
